Delicious Mauritius

Flamboyant trees dot the tiny island of Mauritius which is lapped by turquoise oceans, golden coral beaches with nature at its heart. The people move harmoniously with a warm smile, welcoming you into the island family. The cheesy, “Arrive as strangers, leave as friends” sign you see on arrival seems like the island’s mantra by the time you leave.

You wonder if it’s just another sun drenched island with picture perfect views or a paradise island, not because of the stereotypical beauty you expect from an exotic destination, but because of the harmony and peace you get from even just a short visit.

Enjoy leaving footsteps in powder white sand, snorkelling amongst tropical fish, zip lining through the trees into waterfalls, and exploring what seems like a short history on fast forward. Mauritius has it all, has been through it all and stands as a great example of what it takes to win at being that perfect destination.

The sun didn’t shine brightly each and every day; the rain fell, rainbows filled the sky and we all sunk into our chairs, curled up with a book, sipped on margaritas and watched the stray but cared for dogs living their best lives on the beach. We enjoyed a mobile history lesson, walked through the sea to make land and visit the imposing lighthouse mounted on the hill – with crashing waves ahead and crystal clear still waters behind – like a sentry protecting the serene waters from the outside world.

We toasted our rum too many times, dug toes into sand whilst tucking in to delicate dishes prepared by talented chefs and star gazed over a crackling fire pit. To feel important in a sea of faces requires a special staff and that’s what Victoria Beachcomber has.
