My Stay at Canonnier Beachcomber: A Charming Mauritian Escape Full of Character

Canonnier sits on a peninsula, which means you get multiple beaches, each with its own personality. One morning, I would be floating in calm turquoise water; the next,t I would be stretched out on a quieter stretch of sand, listening to the breeze rustle through the palms.

The lagoon here is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, or simply drifting without a care in the world. It is peaceful, beautiful, and wonderfully restorative.

Dining That Surprised Me in the Best Way

I was not expecting the food to be such a highlight — but it absolutely was.

Le Frangipanier– Fresh, Colourful & Full of Flavour

This became my daily go‑to. Breakfasts were a feast of tropical fruit, pastries, fresh juices, and hot dishes cooked to order. Evenings brought themed buffets that were vibrant, varied, and beautifully presented.

Le Navigator– A Standout Experience

Perched above the ocean, this restaurant quickly became my favourite. The views are breathtaking, especially at sunset, and the food is refined without feeling fussy. Fresh seafood, Mauritian spices, and that warm Beachcomber service made every meal feel special.

La Serenata– Italian Comfort in Paradise

For a cosy, romantic evening, this was perfect. Handmade pasta, rich sauces, and a relaxed atmosphere that made me want to linger long after dessert.

With three restaurants and two bars, I never ran out of delicious things to try.

Golf, With Views I Fell In Love With

Golf lovers are in for a real treat here, too. As a guest of Canonnier, you have privileged access to the stunning Mont Choisy Le Golf, the only 18‑hole championship course in the north of Mauritius. Set among volcanic rock formations, wide fairways, and sweeping tropical landscapes, it is a course that is as beautiful as it is enjoyable to play. Whether you are a seasoned golfer or just fancy a relaxed round in the sunshine, it adds a fantastic extra dimension to your stay.

The Spa in a Banyan Tree (Yes, Really)

The Spa Beachcomber at Canonnier is unlike any spa I have ever visited. It is built into the branches of a centuries‑old banyan tree, with treatment cabins tucked among the roots and limbs. It feels magical — like a secret sanctuary hidden above the world.

My massage here was unforgettable. The sound of the breeze, the scent of essential oils, the gentle creak of the wooden walkways… it was soothing, grounding, and deeply peaceful. If you are a spa lover, this alone is worth the trip.
