Malta and Gozo: The Little Island with a Big Heart

I had the privilege of visiting the enchanting islands of Malta and Gozo with a wonderful group of ladies as guests of Classic Collection. Over the years, people have often asked me, “Who is the best company to travel with?” My answer has always depended on the budget. Now, after experiencing Classic Collection first‑hand, I can say with complete confidence that they are exceptional. It is the thoughtful touches, the seamless organisation and the genuine care that transform a holiday into a memory that stays with you forever.

Speaking to Classic Collection guests during our trip made everything even clearer. Many of them told me they would never book with anyone else. Yes, you may pay a little more, but you truly receive what you pay for. They work hard all year and want a holiday that feels special from start to finish — not just moments of service, but consistent excellence throughout. Classic Collection delivers exactly that.

Their team of tour guides and staff are outstanding. From the moment you arrive, they take care of everything — airport pick‑ups, hotel check‑ins, assistance throughout your stay and a level of support that makes you feel completely looked after.

As someone who is gluten intolerant, travelling has not always been easy. Yet every hotel and restaurant we visited catered for dietary needs with ease and genuine understanding. It was such a relief to simply enjoy my meals without worry. The only thing I had to think about was my expanding waistband — but even that can be managed thanks to the fantastic gyms, swimming pools and spas available across the island.

Exploring Sliema: Chic, Central and Full of Charm

On our first day, we visited the Victoria Hotel and the Palace Hotel in Sliema. Both are centrally located and within easy walking distance of the seafront and the lively shopping district. From the rooftop infinity pool and restaurant, you can soak up magnificent views of Sliema and the breathtaking Grand Harbour of Valletta.

Elegant bedrooms, luxurious spa treatments and exclusive dining options make these hotels ideal for travellers seeking a stylish and relaxing Maltese escape.

A Stylish Stay at InterContinental St George’s Bay

Our second day was centred around the impressive InterContinental Hotel in St George’s Bay, which became our home for the trip. This superb city hotel is perfectly placed for exploring Malta by day and enjoying the vibrant nightlife in the evening. With an array of bars, restaurants and entertainment just steps away, it offers the ideal blend of convenience, comfort and contemporary style.

One of the hotel’s standout features is its private beach, located only a short stroll from the main building. It is a wonderful spot to unwind, soak up the sunshine and enjoy the crystal‑clear waters of St George’s Bay.

The warm welcome extended even further thanks to the multilingual team, who speak an extraordinary range of languages including Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Maltese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. Their professionalism and friendliness ensured that every guest felt instantly at ease.

Discovering Malta’s History with Mary‑Rose

Our guide, Mary‑Rose, was a highlight of the trip. Her passion for Malta’s history was infectious, and she brought every story to life. Her knowledge made each excursion fascinating and left us eager to learn more.

On our third day, we wandered through the narrow streets of Mdina and Rabat, stopping for coffee and a slice of the famous chocolate cake at the Fontanella Tea Garden. They say, “You cannot buy happiness, but you can buy cake, and that is almost the same thing,” and I could not agree more.

We then toured the exquisite Xara Palace Relais and Chateaux, a seventeenth‑century palace set within the medieval walls of Mdina. With just seventeen rooms, this five‑star boutique hotel is the epitome of luxury and only a short walk from St Paul’s Cathedral.

That evening, after a quick freshen‑up, we visited the beautiful Excelsior Hotel for a tour, a welcome drink and a delicious dinner.

A Day in Gozo: Tranquil, Scenic and Unforgettable

Our fourth day took us to the peaceful island of Gozo. We visited the Kempinski San Lawrenz Hotel before enjoying a tour and lunch at the stunning Ta’ Cenc Hotel. The scenery, the serenity and the warm hospitality made this day truly memorable.

A Perfect Final Evening at The Westin Dragonara Resort

Our last night in Malta was spent at the magnificent Westin Dragonara Resort. After a tour of the hotel and its facilities, we enjoyed our final dinner at the beautiful Palio’s Restaurant. It was here that we all fell in love with the chef — and with the unforgettable “Everything Chocolate” dessert.

My visit reminded me that Malta and Gozo offer everything a traveller could wish for — history, sunshine, luxury hotels, delicious food, warm hospitality and unforgettable experiences. When paired with the exceptional service of Classic Collection, it becomes a holiday that stays with you long after you return home.
