LUX* South Ari Atoll – The Honeymoon of Dreams

We’ve just returned from what can only be described as the most incredible honeymoon and I still can’t quite believe we were lucky enough to call this place home for nine nights. As part of a three-week Maldives adventure, we spent the first portion of our trip at LUX* South Ari Atoll, and it completely stole our hearts.

Located in the South Ari Atoll, this picture-perfect resort is just a 30-minute seaplane journey from Malé International Airport and what a way to arrive! Soaring over endless turquoise lagoons and scattered islands was a real pinch-me moment that set the tone for what was to come.

Our Villa: Romantic Overwater with Pool

We stayed in one of the Romantic Overwater Villas with a Pool and it was even better than I’d imagined. Light, airy, and beautifully styled, the villa offered direct ocean access, a private infinity pool with uninterrupted sea views, and some pretty cool extras like a projector screen to watch movies from bed! The little touches made all the difference, complimentary LUX* flip flops, kaftan, fan, and cap, plus a fully stocked minibar (yes, included in the all-inclusive plan!) refilled daily with drinks, snacks, wine, spirits, and soft drinks.

These villas sleep up to 2 adults and 1 teen, but they’re absolutely ideal for couples looking for privacy and romance.

A Resort That Has It All

LUX* South Ari is one of the few resorts that really does cater to everyone, whether you’re on honeymoon, travelling with family, or just want that barefoot luxury escape. It’s effortlessly stylish but also welcoming and laid-back. There’s no pretence here, just exceptional service, amazing food, and that “you’re in paradise” feeling from the second you arrive.

There are 8 restaurants and 5 bars, so you’ll never run out of options. From buffets to fine dining, the culinary variety is unreal. I’m not usually a buffet fan, but even I was impressed, fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented every single time.

Twice during our stay, we joined their signature themed nights at the beach buffet restaurant. We tried both the Maldivian Night and the Lobster BBQ and I can’t recommend them enough. Picture fresh lobster, fish, and meats cooked right in front of you, toes in the sand, with waves gently crashing nearby. It’s an authentic, relaxed, and unforgettable dining experience. The portions? Generous is an understatement, we were spoiled rotten, and it was so worth the extra cost.

Experiences That Create Memories

We were lucky enough to experience the Whale Shark Snorkelling Excursion, and while we didn’t spot any whale sharks, I did have the most surreal, bucket-list moment, swimming with turtles! I almost didn’t do it (massive fear of fish over here!) but I’m so proud I pushed through. Floating in the warm Indian Ocean with these majestic creatures is a moment I’ll never forget.

The marine life around South Ari is spectacular. This area is one of the best spots in the Maldives for whale shark sightings, and the resort’s excursions are well-organised, safe, and guided by knowledgeable staff. Whether you’re into snorkelling, diving, or just cruising, there’s plenty to explore.

And if you want to take it easy, just cycle around the island, relax on the sandbank, or sip cocktails by the pool—the pace is entirely yours to set.

A Wedding to Remember

Perhaps the most special part of our time at LUX* South Ari Atoll was our wedding blessing ceremony. We said “I do” with nothing but soft white sands beneath our feet and endless turquoise waters surrounding us. It was everything I dreamed of and more.

A huge thank you to our incredible wedding coordinator, Jazz, who brought every detail to life. She made it seamless and truly personal, from the floral setup to the ceremony location and private dinner arrangements. If you’re even considering a destination wedding, this is the place to do it. Romantic, intimate, and unforgettable.

From riding your bike across the jetties to spotting dolphins at sunset, dining under the stars, or unwinding in your private overwater villa, every moment here feels like magic.
