๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท Mykonos & Why Island-Hopping is the Secret to the Perfect Greek Holiday

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ท Mykonos & Why Island-Hopping is the Secret to the Perfect Greek Holiday

Mykonos: Chic & Cosmopolitan

Our final stop was 4 nights in Mykonos, just a quick 45-minute ferry from Naxos. We checked into the beautiful Andronikos Hotel, a modern, stylish retreat that feels like an Instagrammerโ€™s paradise โ€” but in the best possible way. Think crisp white design, Bali beds by the pool, and a chic but welcoming vibe thatโ€™s all about relaxation.

Mykonos itself is known as the โ€œisland of the windsโ€ and has a totally different feel to the other Cyclades islands we visited. Whitewashed maze-like streets, iconic windmills, boutique shops, buzzing nightlife, and a real cosmopolitan energy โ€“ itโ€™s glamorous, yes, but still has plenty of charm.

The hotel is just a 15-minute walk from Mykonos Town, or you can hop on their complimentary shuttle at 8:30 or 9:30 pm which drops you right into the centre. It was ideal for us โ€“ close enough to dip into the buzz of town, but peaceful when we wanted downtime.

Breakfast at Andronikos was a real treat. Like our Santorini hotel, you can order freshly prepared dishes from the ร  la carte menu, but thereโ€™s also a continental buffet if you prefer to graze โ€“ and of course, itโ€™s all included.

โœจ Top Things to Do in Mykonos
โ€ข Mykonos Town: Lose yourself in the maze of whitewashed streets filled with boutiques, chapels and cafรฉs.
โ€ข The Windmills: Just a short stroll from town โ€“ one of the islandโ€™s most photographed spots, especially at sunset.
โ€ข Little Venice: Colourful houses right on the waterโ€™s edge โ€“ the perfect place for a sunset cocktail.
โ€ข Day Trip to Delos: A UNESCO World Heritage Site only a short boat ride away, filled with ancient ruins and mythology.
โ€ข Beaches: From lively Paradise & Super Paradise to the more relaxed Agios Ioannis and Ornos, each has its own vibe.
โ€ข Sunset Views: The garden of Mykonos Restobar offers a relaxed setting to enjoy the sunset without the heavy town crowds.

๐Ÿ’ก Mykonos Top Tips
โ€ข Getting Around: Town is pedestrian-only โ€“ comfy shoes are a must! Taxis are limited and pricey, so pre-book if you need one.
โ€ข When to Visit Town: The atmosphere is magical in the evenings when shops stay open late and bars come alive.
โ€ข Prices: Mykonos is one of the pricier islands, but wander a little off the main streets and youโ€™ll still find traditional tavernas at decent prices.
โ€ข Packing Tip: The island is windy, even in summer โ€“ pack a light layer for evenings.

โœจ Why Island-Hopping is the Secret to the Perfect Greek Holiday

Our Greek adventure took us from the history and hustle of Athens, to the dramatic sunsets of Santorini, the laid-back authenticity of Naxos, the charm of Paros, and the cosmopolitan energy of Mykonos to finish.

Island-hopping really is one of the best ways to experience Greece. Each island has its own personality โ€“ from peaceful mountain villages to lively nightlife hubs โ€“ and travelling between them by ferry makes the journey part of the adventure. You never feel like youโ€™re just ticking off places; instead, itโ€™s a natural flow from one experience to the next.

For me, the real secret to feeling like youโ€™ve had a long holiday is doing a multi-centre trip. Moving between destinations keeps everything feeling fresh, like youโ€™ve had several holidays in one. By the time you return home, you feel like youโ€™ve been away for weeks, even if itโ€™s only been two.

This trip was the perfect mix of culture, scenery, relaxation and fun โ€“ and one weโ€™ll remember forever.
