Alpine Adventures staying in a Catered Chalet
Why staying in a Catered Chalet for your next Ski Holiday is the way forward
If someone said to me ‘ski chalet’, I can’t help but think of Wham’s Last Christmas video, in a cosy traditional wooden chalet, with a roaring fire and people wearing fair isle jumpers, tucking into hearty fondues and drinking steaming mugs of hot chocolate. Even though this video was over forty years ago now, there are still many similarities. It's the authentic alpine experience and it's the reason people return to chalets for ski holidays year-after-year.

Convenience
After a day on the slopes, you don’t have to worry about cooking or going out to find a restaurant. Everything is prepared for you, meaning you can simply relax and enjoy your time without extra planning or stress.

Incredible food
Any decent catered chalet will offer professionally prepared, high-quality meals, with locally sourced produce. Hearty breakfasts (a choice of continental or cooked breakfast,) freshly baked cakes in the afternoon at the end of a ski day, and 3-course dinners every night with an excellent selection of wines to accompany, plus a cheeseboard every night if you’re not too full after dinner!
With Inghams chalets, every night there is a choice of a meat or meat-free option. Plus many offer a children’s high tea every day too. An aperitif is served before dinner every night, which is a really nice touch.

Personalised Service
With a dedicated chalet staff, you’ll receive exceptional service throughout your stay. Whether you need advice on the best runs, lift passes, or ski equipment rentals, they can help make your experience more enjoyable and stress-free.

Relaxation
a catered chalet tends to offer a more laid-back setting than a hotel. You’re a few steps away from your meals and you have a relaxing lounge area to chill out in at down times. Plus it’s ok to wander around in slippers! In fact it’s encouraged. Most chalets have saunas, hot tubs or both too.

Great value for groups
For groups or families, staying in a catered chalet can be more cost-effective than booking multiple hotel rooms. It’s also an ideal way to spend quality time together without worrying about where to eat or what to do next.
The food and drinks inclusions (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) tend to ensure that chalet-board properties are better value for money than a half board stay in most hotels.
My advice for securing the perfect ski holiday in a catered chalet
Book early! If you are governed by school holidays or you have your heart set on a specific resort, time of year or chalet size, then the earlier you book, the more choice and availability there is. It sounds obvious but it is very easy to miss the boat.
I would recommend speaking to your Professional Travel Expert to find out when tour operators release their programmes for the following seasons. Use them as your way of keeping the ears to the ground, and they will contact you as soon as the chalets are available to book.
Why Inghams?
Inghams is a trusted British ski operator with an impressive ninety years of experience in operating holidays to the mountains. With decades of expert knowledge and experience, they welcome skiers to over 70 resorts across Europe and Canada, providing quality service
with a range of travel options, transfers, and accommodation included.
In addition to chalet hosts, Inghams also offers their customers piece of mind by having an in-person representative service at the resort. These representatives are based locally, they know the resort, the accommodation and will provide local knowledge and assistance where required.
Inghams’ commitment to sustainable holidays
A sustainable approach to operations is at the heart of Inghams’ catered chalets.
- Local food & drink is sourced such as fresh milk and pastries delivered daily, plus local meats, cheeses and wine
- Compostable coffee pods
- Refillable toiletries in all rooms
- Eco-friendly cleaning products
- Less plastic packaging
Where did I stay?
I was hosted by Inghams and stayed in an Inghams’ Choice catered ski chalet in Alpe d’Huez (France), called Chalet Secret de Neige. This chalet sleeps up to 14 and can be booked as a sole occupancy chalet or by different groups.
The chalet’s design is a contemporary take on a traditional alpine ski chalet. It has a gorgeous south-facing sun terrace, which has incredible mountain views (particularly at sun rise and at sunset). You can see the slopes from the chalet, which are a 3 minute walk from the property, as are numerous different lifts.
The chalet also has a sauna, boot room and a spacious and comfortable living room.
Travelling as part of an Inghams package, means your return flights and airport transfers are included, and you’re dropped off and picked up from the chalet, ensuring that the holiday logistics are completely seamless.
