Why Japan Should Be Your Next Adventure: My Journey with InsideJapan

Why Japan Should Be Your Next Adventure: My Journey with InsideJapan

As a travel agent, I‘m fortunate enough to explore destinations firsthand, and my recent journey through Japan with InsideJapan reminded me exactly why this country continues to captivate travellers from around the world.

From the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to the peaceful hot springs of Kinosaki Onsen, every stop offered a unique experience that would be difficult to find anywhere else. If Japan has been sitting on your travel wish list, here‘s a glimpse of what awaits.

Tokyo: The Ultimate First Impression

Our journey began in Tokyo, a city where cutting-edge technology and ancient traditions exist side by side. One moment I was standing in the middle of the famous Shibuya Crossing, surrounded by towering digital screens and bustling crowds, and the next I was visiting tranquil temples that felt worlds away from the city's fast pace.

I quickly discovered that Shinjuku Station isn't just a transport hub, it's the world's largest escape room, and I definitely didn't solve it on my first attempt!

For first-time visitors, Tokyo is the perfect introduction to Japan, offering world-class dining, shopping, culture, and unforgettable energy.

Osaka: A Paradise for Food Lovers

Next, we travelled to Osaka, often called Japan's kitchen. The atmosphere here is lively, welcoming, and centred around food.

Walking through Dotonbori in the evening, with its bright neon signs reflected in the canal, was an experience in itself. From freshly made takoyaki to savoury okonomiyaki, every meal felt like a celebration of Japanese cuisine.

If your ideal holiday includes incredible food and vibrant nightlife, Osaka should be high on your list.

Kinosaki Onsen: Relaxation at Its Finest

After the excitement of the cities, Kinosaki Onsen provided a completely different experience.

This charming hot spring town is famous for its traditional ryokan inns and seven public bathhouses. Strolling through the town in a yukata, soaking in natural hot springs, and enjoying the peaceful mountain setting was one of the highlights of the trip.

For travellers seeking relaxation and authentic Japanese culture, Kinosaki Onsen is simply unforgettable.

Kyoto: The Heart of Traditional Japan

No trip to Japan would be complete without visiting Kyoto.

Kyoto's temples, shrines, gardens, and historic districts offer a glimpse into Japan's rich heritage. Walking through the thousands of vermilion torii gates at Fushimi Inari and exploring the atmospheric streets of Gion felt like stepping back in time.

A real standout experience in Kyoto was a special meeting arranged by InsideJapan with a Maiko, a trainee Geisha. Sharing matcha and traditional sweets while learning about her training and way of life provided a unique glimpse into one of Japan's most iconic cultural traditions. These are the kinds of authentic, meaningful experiences that transform a holiday from simply seeing a destination to truly connecting with it.

Kyoto is ideal for travellers who want to immerse themselves in Japan's history, culture, and timeless beauty.

Inuyama: A Hidden Gem

One of the surprises of the journey was Inuyama.

Home to one of Japan's oldest surviving original castles, Inuyama offers a more relaxed and authentic atmosphere away from the larger tourist hubs. The castle views, traditional streets, and local charm make it a wonderful addition to any Japan itinerary.

Hiroshima: A City of Reflection and Hope

One of the most impactful parts of the journey was visiting Hiroshima.

The Peace Memorial Park and Museum provide a moving insight into one of the most significant events in modern history, while also delivering a powerful message of peace and resilience. Despite its tragic past, Hiroshima today is a vibrant, welcoming city filled with culture, green spaces, and fantastic food.

A visit here offers a deeper understanding of Japan and creates memories that stay with you long after you've returned home.

Nara: Ancient Heritage and Friendly Deer

No visit to the Kansai region would be complete without spending time in Nara, Japan's first permanent capital. Known for its beautiful parks, historic temples, and famous free-roaming deer, Nara offers a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and a fascinating glimpse into Japan's early history.

One of the highlights was visiting the magnificent Todai-ji, home to one of the world's largest bronze Buddha statues. Walking through Nara Park, where hundreds of friendly deer roam freely among visitors, creates a uniquely Japanese experience that appeals to travellers of all ages. Just a short journey from Kyoto, Nara makes a fantastic addition to any Japan itinerary, combining culture, history, and some truly memorable photo opportunities.
