Velassaru Maldives

My Husband and I have recently returned home from our honeymoon to the Maldives, where we were lucky enough to be able to stay for 5 Nights at Velassaru Maldives. This beautiful island is part of the small luxury leading hotels of the world collection. It was simply stunning.

It‘s situated in South Malé Atoll, a 25-minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport. We were greeted by the Velassaru guest services team upon our arrival to the airport, who then escorted us to the speedboat to take us over to the island. The island Velassaru is situated on is tiny, while the resort is home to 129 bungalows and villas, which are located on the beach and overwater. Despite the island's small size, it's home to five restaurants and two bars.

We were very kindly upgraded to a Beach Villa with pool. This is certainly a room I would recommend, each villa is positioned along the shoreline with direct access to the sea, giving you views of the crystal blue waters! It was very spacious and beautifully decorated, the bedroom and bathroom areas are separated with double doors as the bathroom is all open plan with an free standing bath tub, his and hers sinks and a outdoor rain shower! Having a bubble bath whilst listening to the ocean in the Maldives hits different for sure! The outdoor area has a good sized plunge pool, sun loungers, table and chairs and a daybed with a good sized beach area before leading out onto the beach and into the sea. For me having the private pool and outdoor space is definitely worth the upgrade.

Velassaru isn't all-inclusive but it's Indulgence package comes very close, offering a carefully crafted full board meals and drinks option that includes fabulous culinary experiences and a range of complimentary beverages as you dine. Bed and breakfast, half board and standard full board options are also available. We upgraded to the Indulgence plan, which offers the finest culinary experiences and a range of extras including lunch at Turquoise Restaurant, Fen Bar or Chill Bar. Plus the option to have dinner at any of the a la carte restaurants. The Indulgence package also includes complimentary snorkelling equipment and the two-hour use of an ocean kayak. For us it was worth it, personally I’m a big fan of an a la carte restaurant and love to try new restaurants and foods every night of my holiday so this did not disappoint! The food was phenomenal and the portions were all very generous! There's even an Ice-Cream cart that goes around the island daily! The only thing I was a little disappointed at was the fact the mini bar was not bar of the all inclusive and for someone who goes through Diet Coke like it’s water this can start adding up when it’s being charged to your room bill, however they stocked dairy milk in the mini bar so for me being a chocoholic, I would pay the prices all day long!

The service was amazing and the staff could not have done anymore for us! For all it did rain quite a bit of the time during our stay here the weather didn’t but a dampener on our stay and would certainly recommend this resort. Whilst it is a family friendly resort, I do think this would be more suited to couples or families with older children as there isn’t many children’s facilities compared to the other islands we have stayed where they have kids clubs etc. Whilst Velassaru doesn't have its own house reef, that doesn't mean there aren't opportunities for wonderful snorkelling or diving experiences. The on-island Immersion dive centre gives you the chance to explore the Maldives' mesmerising marine worlds, whether you're a novice or seasoned expert. There are plenty of incredible coral reefs you can snorkel or dive that are only a short boat ride away.

There’s so many highlights from our time here but dining in the teppanyaki restaurant which is over water has to be up there, the both the food and service was incredible, such a good experience! And watching the sunset at chill bar which a glass of wine, there’s just nothing more relaxing. Please Take me back!!!
