Why Fitness, Wellness & Sporting Holidays Are Booming

Why Fitness, Wellness & Sporting Holidays Are Booming

Recently, and especially as I’ve got older, fitness and wellness have become much more than something I simply felt I should do for my health. They’ve become things I genuinely love and honestly need in my daily life.

That got me thinking about how much more enjoyable holidays can be when they include the things that make us feel our best at home, too.

And it seems I’m far from alone in thinking that way.

Over the past few years, fitness, wellness and sporting holidays have exploded in popularity. From tennis academies in Spain to padel weekends in Portugal, yoga retreats in Greece, and cycling escapes in Mallorca, more travellers are looking for holidays that combine relaxation with the hobbies they love most.

Because holidays aren’t just about switching off anymore.

They’re increasingly about feeling good.

• Combining relaxation with hobbies and passions.

• Feeling healthier and more energised after a trip.

• Creating more meaningful travel experiences.

• Balancing wellness with luxury.

• Bringing fitness and activity naturally into a holiday.

Here are a few of the biggest travel trends I’m seeing right now.

Tennis & Padel Holidays Are Booming

Padel in particular has become hugely popular over the last few years. A sport many people in the UK had barely heard of not long ago is now everywhere, and hotels are quickly adapting to the demand.

Resorts across Spain, Portugal and the UAE are investing heavily in padel courts, coaching programmes and social tournaments. What makes padel holidays so appealing is how social and accessible they are. You don’t need to be an expert player to enjoy them, making them perfect for couples, groups of friends and families alike.

Tennis holidays are evolving too. They’re no longer simply sports-focused breaks; they’ve become luxury travel experiences in their own right.

Many high-end resorts now offer:

Professional coaching

Academy programmes

Kids’ tennis camps

Tournament-style socials

High-quality training facilities

You can improve your game while also enjoying beautiful hotels, spas, sunshine and incredible food.

Wellness Travel Has Gone Mainstream

Wellness travel used to feel quite niche, but now it has become far more mainstream.

And importantly, wellness means different things to different people.

For some, it’s yoga retreats and meditation classes. For others, it’s simply having access to:

A good gym

Healthy food options

Long walks

Spa facilities

Better sleep

Time away from stress

People are increasingly viewing holidays as a reset rather than simply an escape.

Many hotels are now designing their entire experience around wellbeing, combining luxury with healthier lifestyles in a way that feels effortless rather than restrictive.

Active Holidays Create Better Shared Experiences

One thing I really love about this trend is how it brings people together.

Whether it’s families learning padel together, couples playing tennis at sunset or friends booking wellness weekends away, active holidays often create far more memorable shared experiences than simply spending a week around the pool.

Of course, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with pool days, too, but adding activities to a holiday can make trips feel much more immersive and rewarding.

Increasingly, people want holidays that leave them feeling:

Rested

Healthier

More energised

Mentally lighter

And that’s exactly why fitness, wellness and sporting holidays are growing so rapidly.

Why I Think This Is The Future Of Luxury Travel

For a long time, luxury travel was all about extravagance.

Now, I think true luxury is increasingly about how a holiday makes you feel when you come home.

Whether it’s sunrise yoga, a tennis lesson in the sunshine, a padel tournament with friends or simply staying somewhere that supports a healthier lifestyle while you travel, active holidays are no longer a niche trend.

They’re becoming the future of luxury travel, and personally, I think they’re here to stay.
