πŸ‡¬πŸ‡· Mykonos & Why Island-Hopping is the Secret to the Perfect Greek Holiday

Mykonos: Chic & Cosmopolitan

Our final stop was 4 nights in Mykonos, just a quick 45-minute ferry from Naxos. We checked into the beautiful Andronikos Hotel, a modern, stylish retreat that feels like an Instagrammer’s paradise β€” but in the best possible way. Think crisp white design, Bali beds by the pool, and a chic but welcoming vibe that’s all about relaxation.

Mykonos itself is known as the β€œisland of the winds” and has a totally different feel to the other Cyclades islands we visited. Whitewashed maze-like streets, iconic windmills, boutique shops, buzzing nightlife, and a real cosmopolitan energy – it’s glamorous, yes, but still has plenty of charm.

The hotel is just a 15-minute walk from Mykonos Town, or you can hop on their complimentary shuttle at 8:30 or 9:30 pm which drops you right into the centre. It was ideal for us – close enough to dip into the buzz of town, but peaceful when we wanted downtime.

Breakfast at Andronikos was a real treat. Like our Santorini hotel, you can order freshly prepared dishes from the Γ  la carte menu, but there’s also a continental buffet if you prefer to graze – and of course, it’s all included.

✨ Top Things to Do in Mykonos
β€’ Mykonos Town: Lose yourself in the maze of whitewashed streets filled with boutiques, chapels and cafΓ©s.
β€’ The Windmills: Just a short stroll from town – one of the island’s most photographed spots, especially at sunset.
β€’ Little Venice: Colourful houses right on the water’s edge – the perfect place for a sunset cocktail.
β€’ Day Trip to Delos: A UNESCO World Heritage Site only a short boat ride away, filled with ancient ruins and mythology.
β€’ Beaches: From lively Paradise & Super Paradise to the more relaxed Agios Ioannis and Ornos, each has its own vibe.
β€’ Sunset Views: The garden of Mykonos Restobar offers a relaxed setting to enjoy the sunset without the heavy town crowds.

πŸ’‘ Mykonos Top Tips
β€’ Getting Around: Town is pedestrian-only – comfy shoes are a must! Taxis are limited and pricey, so pre-book if you need one.
β€’ When to Visit Town: The atmosphere is magical in the evenings when shops stay open late and bars come alive.
β€’ Prices: Mykonos is one of the pricier islands, but wander a little off the main streets and you’ll still find traditional tavernas at decent prices.
β€’ Packing Tip: The island is windy, even in summer – pack a light layer for evenings.

✨ Why Island-Hopping is the Secret to the Perfect Greek Holiday

Our Greek adventure took us from the history and hustle of Athens, to the dramatic sunsets of Santorini, the laid-back authenticity of Naxos, the charm of Paros, and the cosmopolitan energy of Mykonos to finish.

Island-hopping really is one of the best ways to experience Greece. Each island has its own personality – from peaceful mountain villages to lively nightlife hubs – and travelling between them by ferry makes the journey part of the adventure. You never feel like you’re just ticking off places; instead, it’s a natural flow from one experience to the next.

For me, the real secret to feeling like you’ve had a long holiday is doing a multi-centre trip. Moving between destinations keeps everything feeling fresh, like you’ve had several holidays in one. By the time you return home, you feel like you’ve been away for weeks, even if it’s only been two.

This trip was the perfect mix of culture, scenery, relaxation and fun – and one we’ll remember forever.
