✨ My Lapland Experience: 3 Days of Magic, Snow & Once-in-a-Lifetime Moments ❄️

Lapland is one of those places that truly feels like stepping into another world. Snow-covered forests, magical silence, glowing lights, and winter adventures that stay with you forever. I recently spent three days experiencing the very best of what Lapland has to offer and I’m even more in love with this destination than before.

Here’s a full, insight into what you can expect from a Lapland break, including my experience with huskies, reindeer, gondolas, festive treats, Levi town and my stay at the beautiful Levi Black Apartments.

Where I Stayed: Levi Black Apartments

We stayed at the Levi Black Apartments, which are modern, cosy and ideal for families, couples, or groups wanting that β€œhome-from-home” feel in the snow.

What I loved about them:
β€’ Spacious, stylish interiors
β€’ Warm, comfortable bedrooms
β€’ Fully equipped kitchen and living area
β€’ Scandinavian decor and lots of natural light
β€’ Easy access to activities, transport and Levi town

It’s the perfect base for relaxing after a day in the snow – especially when you come back to heated rooms, warm showers and a cosy living area.

You can also upgrade your stay to Half Board, with buffet-style meals served within the apartment complex, a really convenient and great-value option, especially for families or those wanting everything in one place.

❄️ DAY 1 – Arrival & Settling Into Lapland

The moment you land in Lapland, the scenery takes your breath away – snowy trees, crisp air, and that unmistakeable festive feeling.

Check-in was smooth, and once we had our thermal suits and boots, we headed to the apartment to wrap up warm and explore the surrounding area. Lapland has this peaceful, magical atmosphere from the very first minute.

πŸ’« Day 2 – Snowshoeing, Snowmobiles & Northern Lights Hunt

Day 2 was all about getting out into the snow and experiencing some of the classic Lapland activities.

❄️ Snowshoeing
We started with snowshoeing, which is such a fun way to explore the winter landscape. With the snowshoes on, you can walk over deep snow that you’d normally sink straight into.
β€’ It’s surprisingly easy to get the hang of
β€’ You move at a relaxed pace, taking in the scenery
β€’ Ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors without skiing

It’s peaceful, great for photos and a lovely way to feel properly β€œin” the landscape rather than just looking at it.

πŸ›· Snowmobiling
Next up was snowmobiling, which is much more fast-paced and adrenaline-filled, but still very safe and controlled.
β€’ You’re given full instructions and safety briefing
β€’ Helmets and proper gear are provided
β€’ You can usually ride two to a snowmobile (driver + passenger)

Gliding across frozen landscapes and through snowy forests on a snowmobile is such a unique feeling – it’s exciting, but you’re still surrounded by that Lapland calm.

🌌 Northern Lights Hunt (by Van)
In the evening, we joined a Northern Lights hunt by van. This is a great option if you prefer to stay warm and comfortable while heading out to darker spots away from light pollution.
β€’ The guides keep an eye on the weather and cloud cover
β€’ You travel to areas with the best chance of clear skies
β€’ Hot drinks and warm layers make it cosy, even if it’s very cold outside

Of course, the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, but the experience of going out into the quiet, dark wilderness in search of them is incredibly special in itself.

It was a full, active day with a great balance of soft adventure, excitement and those β€œpinch me, I’m in Lapland” moments.

❀️ DAY 3 – Husky Adventures, Reindeer Magic & Levi Town

This was the highlight of the trip, the Husky & Reindeer Combo Experience and it was unforgettable.

πŸ• Husky Ride – 2km of Pure Winter Magic
The farm covers 143 acres and is home to around 160 dogs. They are full of energy and excitement, and you can instantly see how loved and well-cared-for they are.

A few things that make the experience so special:
β€’ The dogs are incredibly friendly and eager to run
β€’ Before the ride, they bark with excitement, once you set off, it becomes completely silent
β€’ Gliding through snowy forests with only the sound of the sled is magical
β€’ The scenery feels like something out of a film
β€’ It’s suitable for families, couples and first-timers

The sled teams are organised carefully, with the clever β€œlead dogs” at the front, mixed dogs in the middle, and the strongest dogs at the back. It’s fascinating to see how seamlessly they work together.

If you want a true bucket-list moment, this is it.

🦌 Reindeer Ride – Calm, Peaceful & Traditionally Finnish
The reindeer experience is completely different from the huskies – slow, calm, and incredibly peaceful. The reindeer belong to a family that has cared for them for over 600 years, and it really shows.

You sit back, wrap up warm, and gently glide through the snowy forest. It’s one of those moments where everything feels still – quiet, magical and very Lapland.

πŸ”₯ Cosy Kotas & Berry Juice
Between the two experiences, you’re welcomed into warm wooden kotas where you can:
β€’ Sit by the fire
β€’ Toast marshmallows
β€’ Sip hot berry juice
β€’ Chat with the guides
β€’ Warm up after the cold

Such a lovely addition and perfect for families.

🚠 Exploring Levi: Gondola Views, Cosy Cafés & Festive Charm

After the activities, we took gondola up to the Panorama Hotel:
β€’ €16pp return for passenger only
β€’ Kids’ discounts available
β€’ Free after 7pm
β€’ Runs until 11pm

The views over Levi are incredible, especially as the the lights start to glow.

At the top, you’ll find:
β€’ Levi Summit CafΓ© – stunning views
β€’ Panorama Hotel bar & restaurants
β€’ Secret CafΓ© – a cute spot a little further down

Later, we headed into Levi town, which has a really cosy ski-resort atmosphere. It’s much bigger than people often expect, with:
β€’ Bars and restaurants
β€’ Supermarkets
β€’ Souvenir and gift shops
β€’ Ski lifts and slopes
β€’ Beautiful winter lighting

There was even a small Christmas market with festive huts selling food, hot chocolate and gifts, plus a firepit area where you can warm up outside. Levi has more than enough to keep everyone entertained, couples, families, skiers and non-skiers, for a full 7-night stay.

While Lapland is famous for its Santa experiences, it offers so much more. The adventure break we’ve just done is absolutely incredible for adults, couples, families with older children, or even families who have already done a traditional Santa trip and want to return for the activities. From huskies and reindeer to snowmobiling, Northern Lights hunts, gondolas, icy landscapes and cosy cafΓ©s, Lapland is a dream winter destination even without the Santa element. It’s a place you can genuinely return to again and again for completely different experiences.

Lapland is one of the most magical destinations in the world and experiencing it firsthand has reminded me why families return year after year.

Whether you’re dreaming of husky rides, peaceful reindeer safaris, snowy forests, festive towns or simply that once-in-a-lifetime winter wonderland, Lapland truly delivers.

If Lapland is on your bucket list or you’re starting to plan a future trip, I’d love to help you create the perfect experience. β„οΈβœ¨
