🇮🇸 Iceland: Northern Lights, Glaciers & Geothermal Magic
There are few destinations as otherworldly as Iceland, a place where glaciers meet volcanic landscapes, waterfalls pour from icy cliffs, and the sky itself comes alive with colour. Our trip was the definition of bucket-list travel: snowmobiling across a glacier, soaking in a geothermal lagoon, and witnessing the Northern Lights dance above us. It’s hard to put into words just how surreal it all felt.
💫 Northern Lights – A Night We’ll Never Forget
We were incredibly lucky to catch the Northern Lights, especially as the forecast wasn’t looking too promising. But sometimes, the stars (quite literally) align. The aurora appeared before we’d even reached our viewing location and stayed with us the entire time, shimmering in greens and purples across the sky. It was absolutely magical and one of those moments you know you’ll remember forever.
If seeing the lights is on your bucket list, Iceland gives you one of the best chances, but be ready for some serious cold! Layers, hand warmers, and a hot drink are essentials.
❄️ Golden Circle & Glacier Snowmobiling Adventure
Our Golden Circle day tour was an absolute highlight, filled with jaw-dropping scenery and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We were picked up from Reykjavík and driven through snow-covered landscapes to three of Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders:
• Þingvellir National Park – A place of enormous historical and geological importance, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. You can see cracks and gorges formed by the shifting of the Earth itself, an incredible sight.
• Geysir Geothermal Area – Watching the powerful geysers erupt every few minutes was unforgettable. It’s truly one of those moments where nature shows off.
• Gullfoss Waterfall – This mighty, two-tiered waterfall is one of Iceland’s most famous, and for good reason. The sheer force and beauty of it will take your breath away.
From Gullfoss, we switched into Mountaineer super jeeps and made our way up onto Langjökull Glacier for our snowmobiling adventure. It took around 30–40 minutes to reach the base camp, where we were kitted out with thermal gear and helmets.
And then… off we went! Riding snowmobiles across a real glacier was hands-down one of the most exhilarating things we’ve ever done. The scenery was beyond surreal, just miles of untouched snow, towering ice formations, and blue skies. Freezing? Yes. Worth it? 1000%.
🌊 Sky Lagoon – The Ultimate Icelandic Spa Experience
There are lots of geothermal lagoons in Iceland, but after comparing options, we decided to visit the Sky Lagoon and it turned out to be the perfect choice. With ocean views, sleek design, and fewer crowds than the Blue Lagoon, it felt like a true hidden gem.
What really sets the Sky Lagoon apart is the Seven-Step Ritual, a unique wellness journey that makes the experience so much more than just a soak in warm water:
1. Relax in the lagoon
2. Brave the cold plunge 🥶
3. Warm up in a glass-fronted sauna with incredible sea views
4. Refresh under the cold mist
5. Exfoliate with the Sky Body Scrub (hello silky smooth skin!)
6. Unwind in the steam room
7. Rinse off and return to the lagoon, wine in hand 🍷
Phones went away, stress melted, and the whole experience left us feeling totally reset.
👁️ Unique Keepsake – Eyemazy Experience
While wandering Reykjavík, we stumbled across Eyemazy, a photo experience that captures a high-resolution scan of your iris and turns it into a piece of art. It was originally recommended by one of my customers, and I’m so glad we did it. Even Jonny, who was sceptical at first, was shocked by how cool it looked.
The end result is a super modern, personalised souvenir of your trip and one we now have proudly framed at home!
If you’re considering Iceland… do it. Yes, it’s cold. Yes, it’s a bit of a splurge. But there is nowhere else in the world quite like it. Between the natural wonders, adrenaline-pumping adventures, and total moments of peace and reflection, it’s a destination that stays with you long after you’ve left.
We returned home relaxed, energised, and already dreaming of when we might go back.
If you’re planning your own trip to Iceland and want help deciding between lagoons, tours, or where to stay, I’d love to help you build a personalised itinerary.
