A Slice of Paradise: My Stay at Sun Siyam Iru Veli

A Slice of Paradise: My Stay at Sun Siyam Iru Veli

After a long journey from London via Abu Dhabi to Malé with Etihad, our adventure truly began. We were swiftly checked in at the seaplane terminal and escorted to the stunning new Siyam World Seaplane Lounge—a spacious, well-appointed haven perfect for larger groups like ours. With a light breakfast spread that included cereals, fresh bakery items, juices, tea, and coffee, it was a lovely welcome before our next leg.

Soon, we boarded our seaplane for a scenic 35-minute flight to Sun Siyam Iru Veli, nestled in a serene South Western Atoll. The arrival was nothing short of magical—warm smiles, rhythmic drumming, and a celebratory announcement by the Radheef made us feel instantly special. At the new arrivals bar, the Caribbean-inspired vibe added a refreshing twist, complete with cold towels and a choice of welcome drinks.

I was genuinely impressed by how impeccably maintained the resort was, even five years after my last visit. My Beach Villa with Pool was a dream—white marble-effect floors, sleek modern interiors, and two showers (one semi-indoor and one in a private garden area), plus a deep soaking tub. It was clear that the island team takes pride in their upkeep.

Lunch was served beachside under the shade of palms and blooming flowers—delicious food and a breathtaking setting. That evening, we were treated to a sunset cruise with our own DJ, boat crew, canapés, and drinks. The team went above and beyond to make us feel truly pampered.

After a restful night (thanks to a mattress topper I requested in advance), breakfast was another highlight. From fresh honeycomb and plant-based options to indulgent pastries and smiling staff, it was a feast for all tastes. The beach here is stunning—soft white sand and shallow waters perfect for families with young children. The Beach Villas offer privacy with glimpses of the ocean, while the Water Villas are pure bliss, complete with hammocks in the shallows and excellent snorkelling spots nearby.

One fun surprise was the island treasure hunt—a playful activity with fabulous prizes like floating breakfasts or teppanyaki dinners, not included in the all-inclusive package. Definitely worth joining!

A quick tip: avoid leaving makeup in the outdoor bathroom—it’s warm enough to melt everything! Thankfully, the indoor dressing area is perfectly arranged for storage. Rooms come fully equipped with a daily-refreshed minibar, flip-flops, beach bags, and even an iron and board.

Sun Siyam Iru Veli is ideal for all ages. It’s peaceful yet family-friendly, with a kids’ club for ages 3–12 (under 3s require a parent or babysitter). Activities are engaging and educational, making it a great choice for couples, honeymooners, and families alike.

With just 125 rooms, the island feels boutique and intimate, yet friendly and welcoming. Service is attentive but never intrusive—and yes, the cocktails are superb!

This island remains a firm favourite of mine, and I can’t wait to return.
