Mykonos Where Sunsets, Style & Seaside Magic Come Together

Mykonos Where Sunsets, Style & Seaside Magic Come Together

I’ve just returned from the dazzling island of Mykonos, and I can confidently say—it’s every bit as magical as you’ve heard, and then some.

Whether you’re dreaming of a beach escape, romantic break, or a stylish getaway with a touch of luxury, Mykonos ticks all the boxes. As a travel advisor, I always seek out destinations that balance beauty, experience, and service, and Mykonos exceeded expectations at every turn.

Getting There

Travelling to Mykonos couldn’t be easier, with direct flights available from most major UK airports throughout the spring and summer. And if you’re looking to arrive in style, one of the hotels I visited even offers helicopter transfers—yes, it’s every bit as impressive as it sounds (and I can arrange it for you!).

Where to Stay The island’s hotels are nothing short of exceptional. I stayed at the Myconian Ambassador Hotel, part of the elegant Myconian Collection in Platis Gialos. With its sea-view suites, outstanding service, and just steps from the beach, it’s a perfect choice for couples and honeymooners alike. Other properties I visited offer everything from private plunge pools to VIP beach service, and of course, helicopter landing pads for that ultra-luxurious arrival. Whether you’re seeking peaceful elegance or glamour and buzz, I can recommend the best places to suit your style and budget.

What to Do

Mykonos is so much more than just beaches and nightlife, though it certainly excels in those areas! Take a stroll through Mykonos Town: it’s a vibrant labyrinth of whitewashed buildings, winding alleyways, and bright bougainvillaea cascading down balconies and doorways. The colours are stunning, featuring crisp blues, sunny yellows, and vibrant pinks at every turn. The shopping is just as exhilarating, with designer boutiques, artisan jewellery, and local treasures hidden around every corner.

Join a cookery class in a traditional farmhouse, which was one of the highlights of my trip. We learned to make authentic Greek dishes in a charming farmhouse setting, with homemade wine flowing and herbs picked fresh from the garden. It’s a wonderful way to connect with the culture—and bring some new skills home, too!

Spend a day at Elia Beach, the longest beach on Mykonos, stretching nearly a mile and boasting soft golden sand alongside crystal-clear water. It offers a more relaxed alternative to the livelier beach clubs, yet it still has great sunbeds and attentive service if you want to make a day of it.

Don’t miss watching the sunset in Little Venice. Grab a drink and find a seat by the water—the views are breathtaking, making it one of the most romantic spots on the island. Beach hopping by boat is another fantastic experience; for just €20, you can take a trip that visits four different beaches along the stunning south coast. It’s a perfect way to explore beautiful locations like Paradise, Super Paradise, Paraga, and Agrari all in a single, relaxed day. Sun, sea, music, and lovely views create the ideal Mykonos combination.

You should also visit the ancient island of Delos, located just a short boat ride away. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is rich in mythology and ruins, making it a must-see for history enthusiasts.

Food & Nightlife

The food in Mykonos is phenomenal. From seafood tavernas by the sea to fine dining under the stars, each meal felt like a celebration. The flavors are fresh, local, and bursting with Mediterranean soul. Thanks to that cookery class, I even brought a few recipe ideas home with me! When the sun sets, Mykonos truly comes alive. Whether you want to dance until dawn or sip cocktails in a quiet courtyard bar, there’s something for every mood.

Final Thoughts

Mykonos is everything you’ve heard about—and so much more. It’s glamorous yet grounded, lively yet peaceful, and full of charm at every corner. The vibrant colours, unique character, and carefree energy make it a place you’ll want to return to time and again. Additionally, it’s an excellent starting point for island hopping, with easy ferry connections and short flights to nearby islands like Santorini, Naxos, and Paros. If you’re contemplating your next getaway—whether it’s a honeymoon, group retreat, solo adventure, or just a well-deserved vacation—let’s make it unforgettable. I’ve experienced the best of Mykonos firsthand and would love to help you plan a trip tailored specifically to you.
