A Girly Weekend Cruise to Amsterdam with Ambassador Cruise Line
A Girly Weekend Cruise to Amsterdam with Ambassador Cruise Line
There is nothing quite like a girly getaway with a little bit of sightseeing, great food, evening entertainment and plenty of time to relax.
I recently enjoyed a fantastic short break with Ambassador Cruise Line aboard Ambience, sailing to Amsterdam for a weekend packed with fun, laughter and memorable experiences.
From stepping onboard and enjoying the sailaway party to exploring the streets of Amsterdam and enjoying some fabulous entertainment, this cruise was the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
Thursday 15th October – Embarkation Day
Our girly weekend began with embarkation day, and one of the first things that impressed me was how quick and straightforward the check-in process was. We were settled into our ocean view cabin by 3 pm, meaning we could start enjoying the ship without wasting any time.
Once onboard, it was time to get into holiday mode! We headed up to the top deck for the sailaway party, enjoying the atmosphere as we set off on our mini adventure.
For dinner that evening, we chose to eat in the buffet restaurant, which offered a relaxed and easy-going start to the cruise.
After dinner, we headed to the Purple Turtle for a drink and enjoyed some live music before making our way to the theatre for the evening show, Festival Fever.
It was a lovely way to finish our first day onboard, with a great atmosphere and plenty of entertainment.
Friday 16th October – Exploring Amsterdam
Friday started with breakfast in the main dining room, time to relax and explore the ship, followed by lunch in the buffet.
We made sure we were fuelled up and ready to explore.
We docked in Amsterdam at 1 pm, and it was time to head ashore!
We left the ship and took the tram to Central Station, which was a convenient way to get into the heart of the city.
From there, we spent time walking through Amsterdam, taking in the beautiful streets, canals and unique atmosphere that make the city such a popular destination.
One of the highlights was visiting the Anne Frank House, a deeply moving and important place to experience. It was a memorable part of our day and offered a chance to reflect on the history behind Anne Frank’s story.
After exploring the city, we walked back to the ship, ready for a relaxing evening onboard.
Dinner was once again in the buffet restaurant as it gave us the flexibility we needed to choose our dinner time. Afterwards,r we headed to the Observatory for a drink and more live music.
The evening entertainment was another highlight, with a show dedicated to the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. It was a wonderful way to round off our day in Amsterdam, combining a city adventure with the comfort and entertainment of the ship.
Saturday 17th October – Special Guests and Celebration Dining
Saturday brought another lovely day onboard, with breakfast in the main dining room and lunch in the buffet.
One of the standout events of the cruise was the meet and greet with TV personalities Kate Thornton and Jenny Powell. It was a great opportunity to meet them in person and enjoy something a little different from the usual cruise activities.
Kate Thornton also hosted White Wine Question Time, adding another fun and entertaining element to the weekend.
Events like these really helped make the cruise feel special, offering experiences beyond the usual dining and theatre entertainment.
That evening, we dressed up for a celebration dinner in the main dining room. It was a lovely occasion to enjoy a meal together, make the most of the evening and celebrate our girly getaway.
After we explored more bar and entertainment options, we then headed to the theatre for ‘ A Night with HeidiRange ‘.
With another fantastic evening of entertainment, it was the perfect way to round off our final full day onboard.
From live shows and special guests to good food and drinks, Saturday really showcased the variety of experiences available on an Ambassador cruise.
My Thoughts on Ambassador Cruise Line
One of the things I particularly liked about this cruise was the atmosphere onboard. Ambassador has a small, traditional ship feel, which creates a friendly and welcoming environment.
The staff were friendly, and the ship had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. It felt like a place where you could enjoy yourself without feeling overwhelmed by the size of the ship or the number of things happening around you.
Another big plus was the quick check-in process. Being able to get checked into our cabin in around 20 minutes made the start of the holiday feel straightforward and stress-free.
Is Ambassador suitable for solo travellers and groups?
Absolutely! One of the interesting things to note is that around 20–30% of passengers may be travelling solo, making Ambassador an option worth considering if you're thinking about cruising alone.
Cruising can be a brilliant way to travel independently while still having opportunities to meet other people, enjoy organised entertainment and explore new destinations.
Ambassador can also accommodate groups of 16 or more passengers, making it worth considering for a group getaway, a friends’ trip or a special celebration.
Whether you are travelling with friends, as a couple, as part of a group or on your own, the traditional ship atmosphere and friendly service help make the experience feel welcoming.
