One of the world's most exotic islands

Sri Lanka

More About Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is located at the southern tip of India and is one of the world‘s most exotic and beautiful islands. You will find mystical ancient cities, thick jungles and miles upon miles of pristine white sand beaches here. The culture is warm and the people of Sri Lanka are extremely friendly. It's an affordable destination to visit in terms of both getting there and the cost of living when you are in the resort is very inexpensive. Popular with families as well as couples and groups, Sri Lanka has something for everyone. The serene east coast suits families whilst others will find a full itinerary of exploring and hiking through the more off-the-beaten-track areas is their dream holiday adventure. Many of the resorts have long transfer times so we can arrange private car transfers to make the journey as comfortable as we can for you. The island has some magnificent beaches, especially along the southwest coast. It also has cooler mountainous regions in which you'll discover waterfalls, indigenous wildlife, vast tea plantations and ancient sites. Hikers and climbers will love Adam's Peak which stands at 7359 feet. There's a choice of trails to consider plus you can hire a guide to take you to the top if you wish. It's a challenging climb but one that is well worth the effort in our opinion. Sacred and religious sites include the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, the Golden Temple of Dambulla and the Gangaramaya (Vihara) Buddhist Temple in Colombo. One of the most famous sights in Sri Lanka is Sigiriya Rock. At the top is an impressive mountain fortress and you'll also be able to take in breathtaking views. An excellent way to see Sri Lanka is to take one of the many organised tours we have and combine these with a hotel stay. When you contact Designer Travel, you can be assured that your enquiry will be dealt with by an experienced Travel Expert who can design a bespoke travel itinerary just for you. Leisure Activities

Sigiriya

The ancient rock fort, Sigiriya, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world. The 200 metre high rock is situated in the heart of the island between Dambula and Habaraue. The surrounding grounds feature the remains of a ruined palace, a vast garden with ponds and fountains, and a network of fortifications. It’s well worth the climb to the top of the rock for spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

Kandy

The city of Kandy is situated in central Sri Lanka and is surrounded by mountains which are home to vast tea plantations. One of the many reasons to travel the city is to visit the Temple of the Tooth. This fascinating Buddhist temple is situated within the Royal Palace complex and houses a casket containing a tooth of the Buddha.

Yala National Park

Yala National Park is the most visited park in Sri Lanka. It's home to 44 kinds of mammals and 215 different bird species. Mammals include the world’s biggest concentration of leopard, elephants, jackals, sloths, spotted deer and crocodiles. The best time to visit is between February and July.
