Stoupa, Greece – The Peloponnese Gem That Keeps Calling Us Back

Some places capture your heart the moment you arrive, and Stoupa is certainly one of them. This was our second visit in just two years, and I can honestly say it won’t be our last.

Located in the stunning Peloponnese region of Greece, Stoupa is surrounded by dramatic mountain backdrops, crystal-clear waters, charming villages and some of the warmest, friendliest locals you’ll ever meet. It’s easy to understand why around 80% of visitors are returning guests. During our stay, we met couples and families who have been holidaying here every year for an incredible 15 to 30 years. Once you’ve experienced Stoupa, it’s easy to see why.

Getting There

Our holiday began with a smooth one-hour coach transfer from Kalamata Airport, giving us our first glimpse of the beautiful Peloponnese countryside. The journey flies by as you wind through olive groves, picturesque villages and spectacular mountain scenery before arriving in the beautiful seaside resort of Stoupa.

Two Beautiful Beaches

One of the many reasons we love Stoupa is that it offers two stunning beaches, each with its own character.

Stoupa Beach is perfect for relaxing, swimming and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, while nearby Kalogria Beach boasts soft golden sand and calm, turquoise waters that are ideal for families.

Even better, many of the beachfront tavernas offer complimentary sunbeds when you enjoy food or drinks with them, making beach days even better value.

If you fancy something a little more active, water-sports are very reasonably priced. My husband and daughter hired paddleboards for just €12 for one hour, making it a fantastic way to explore the coastline.

Fantastic Food & Great Value

One thing you’ll never struggle with in Stoupa is deciding where to eat! The village is packed with wonderful tavernas and restaurants, many enjoying stunning sea views.

Whether you’re craving authentic Greek dishes, freshly caught fish, grilled meats, delicious pasta or international cuisine, there’s something for everyone. Every meal felt relaxed, welcoming and excellent value.

And no holiday would be complete without ice cream! Our favourite stop was Leonardo's, serving some of the most delicious ice cream we’ve tasted – the perfect treat while strolling along the seafront.

Cocktails & Incredible Sunsets

As the sun begins to set, Stoupa transforms into one of the most magical places in Greece.

Cocktail bars line the waterfront, with many serving cocktails from as little as €5, making sunset drinks even more enjoyable. Our favourite was Captain's Cocktail bar just set back from Stoupa main beach

If it's view you want then Bar 360, is perched four floors above Stoupa Beach. The panoramic views across the bay are breathtaking, especially as the sun slowly disappears behind the horizon. It’s the perfect place for a sundowner and one of our favourite memories from the holiday.

A Day on the Water

One of the highlights of our week was hiring a boat from Kardamili Boat Hire.

For €120, we enjoyed four wonderful hours exploring the spectacular coastline at our own pace. We discovered hidden coves, dropped anchor for refreshing swim stops in crystal-clear waters and admired the rugged beauty of the Peloponnese from the sea. It was without doubt one of the best experiences of our holiday and something I’d highly recommend.

Kardamili itself is just 10–15 minutes from Stoupa, with a taxi costing around €12, making it an easy excursion.

Walks with a View

If you enjoy walking, don’t miss the beautiful coastal path from Stoupa to Agios Nikolaos.

The walk takes around 30 minutes each way and follows the coastline with wonderful sea views throughout. Once you arrive in Agios Nikolaos, you’ll find charming waterfront tavernas that are perfect for a leisurely lunch before strolling back to Stoupa.

Why We Keep Coming Back

There are plenty of beautiful destinations in Greece, but Stoupa has something truly special.

Perhaps it’s the relaxed atmosphere, the breathtaking scenery, the incredible sunsets, the fantastic food or the genuine warmth of the local people. More likely, it’s the combination of all of these things that keeps visitors returning year after year.

This was our second visit to Stoupa in two years, and as we reluctantly boarded the coach back to Kalamata Airport, we were already talking about when we could return.

If you’re looking for a Greek destination that offers beautiful beaches, excellent food, spectacular scenery, great value and a wonderfully authentic atmosphere, I can’t recommend Stoupa highly enough.
