Kefalonia Family Summer Holiday

Kefalonia Family Summer Holiday

We travelled on our family holiday to Kefalonia in Greece, in August 2022 for eleven days.

As a family, we love small accommodation complexes and enjoy going self-catering, so we can eat out and sample the local cuisine.

We chose to stay at the Sotiris Studios and apartments, in Svoronata, Kefalonia, these are located a very short transfer from the airport, the location does mean there is some aircraft noise, but our girls (like us) enjoy plane spotting, so we didn’t mind!

The beach of Ammes was around a 6–8-minute walk from the Sotiris, there were some lovely restaurants along the front, and some located in more rural areas around 10 minutes’ walk from our apartments too.

We enjoyed a fabulous Greek night at a local restaurant with traditional Greek food, singing and dancing and we all loved it!

The local dishes are not to be missed, such as Kefalonia meat pie, Souvlaki, Greek Salads, Sword fish kebabs to name but a few.

Within a short drive of where we stayed in Svoronata there are two further beaches of Avithos and Ai Helis which we spent time at too, the sunbeds and umbrellas in peak season we thought were very reasonable at 20 Euros for two beds with an umbrella.

During almost half of our stay for 5 days we hired a car, we managed to see a large proportion of the island, from the stunning Myrtos beach, over to Fiskardo in the North of the island via Assos beach (which we also visited and loved, it is like a mini Fiskardo)

We also visited the fabulous beaches of Sami, Lassi and XI beach in Lixouri, on the way to XI beach we drove around the coast, cruise ship spotting in Argostoli, on the return journey we took the car ferry, a few minutes’ drive from XI beach back across to Argostoli which shortened our return road journey somewhat.

The sand at XI beach is renowned for its clay properties, so we took advantage and covered ourselves in the clay, before washing it off in the sea, our skin felt wonderful . On XI beach our girls were able to take a bucket list activity of parasailing too.

One of our top tips for Kefalonia beaches a some are stone and shingle is to make sure you pack some beach water shoes to save the soles of your feet.

We spent a lovely few hours in Kefalonia’s capital of Argostoli, having lunch ice creams and doing a spot of shopping too.

We loved our holiday in Kefalonia, it just cemented for us, how much we love Greece and the Greek Islands as a holiday destination with the stunning blue Ionian sea, it breathtakingly beautiful
