Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village Review: A Relaxed Family Hotel in Majorca
Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village Review: A Relaxed Family Hotel in Majorca
I was lucky enough to join a group of travel agents visiting a handful of the Iberostar Waves and Selection properties across Majorca, and one thing that really stood out throughout the trip was the consistency across all the hotels. Every property had a high standard running through it, but more importantly, they all genuinely seemed designed with families in mind.
Some family hotels can feel either too child-focused or too formal, but Iberostar seems to have found a balance that works for everyone. Across the hotels we visited, there was the same relaxed atmosphere, well-maintained grounds and thoughtful layout that made travelling with children and grandparents feel much easier and less stressful.
Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village is set on Playa de Muro, often considered one of the best beaches in Spain. The hotel has an incredible beachfront location without feeling overly large or commercial. In fact, it’s actually one of the smaller Iberostar resorts, which I personally think is part of its charm. The more intimate layout gives the hotel a calmer and more personal feel, while still offering plenty for families.
Even though there’s lots going on, it never felt overcrowded or overwhelming, and everything is within easy reach, which is something that works especially well for multi-generational holidays.
What stood out most was how easy the whole place felt for families. You could see grandparents relaxing by the quieter pool areas while younger children moved between the splash park and the beach, keeping everyone entertained without the resort ever feeling chaotic.
Because of the overall layout and atmosphere, I honestly think this hotel is best suited to families with younger children rather than teenagers looking for a huge action-packed resort. It’s relaxed, manageable and easy, which is exactly what many parents want when travelling with little ones.
One thing I noticed across all the Iberostar properties was the consistency. The hotels feel well-maintained, family-friendly without being chaotic, and designed in a way that genuinely makes holidays easier rather than more complicated. The service also felt warm and welcoming rather than overly formal or scripted.
That consistency is reassuring, especially when booking a family or multi-generational holiday where everyone has different needs. In my experience, you genuinely can’t go wrong with an Iberostar property.
The Beach Location Really Makes the Holiday
One of the best things about the hotel is the direct access to Playa de Muro beach. You walk through the hotel gardens, and you’re straight onto the sand. When travelling with children, that kind of easy access makes such a difference - no long walks, no roads to cross and no complicated beach setup every day.
The beach itself is ideal for families because the water stays shallow for quite a long way out. Toddlers can paddle safely while older children play further along the shoreline. It also works really well for older relatives because everything is flat and easy to navigate.
There’s something quite lovely about a hotel where grandparents can wander down for an early morning beach walk while the rest of the family slowly wakes up.
Spacious Family Rooms That Actually Work
One thing I appreciated was that the rooms didn’t feel like standard hotel rooms with an extra sofa bed squeezed in. The family rooms are spacious, practical and genuinely comfortable for longer stays.
Some rooms also have direct pool access, which I thought was such a smart setup for families. If I had one top tip when booking, it would definitely be to choose one of the ground-floor rooms with steps directly into the pool. They looked brilliant for families and gave the whole holiday a much more relaxed feel.
For larger groups, there are also interconnecting room options, which work particularly well for families travelling with grandparents or older children wanting a bit more independence.
Waterpark, Splash Areas and Children’s Activities
The waterpark and splash areas were probably the biggest success for younger children. They’re colourful, energetic and designed properly for kids rather than feeling like an afterthought.
There are slides, shallow play areas, water jets and dedicated children’s spaces, alongside a children’s activity programme that keeps younger guests entertained throughout the day.
What I liked most was that despite being family-focused, the hotel still felt calm. Families with younger children could enjoy the fun areas, while adults wanting a quieter time could still find peaceful spots elsewhere around the resort.
Food That Doesn’t Feel Repetitive
Buffets can be hit or miss at family resorts, but the food here was genuinely impressive. Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village has three restaurants and four bars, which gives much more variety across a longer stay.
The buffet restaurant offered enough choice that you didn’t feel like you were eating the same thing every night, with plenty of fresh options alongside the usual family-friendly dishes. The all-inclusive setup also worked well because guests still have flexibility rather than feeling tied to one restaurant every evening.
One thing that really stood out was the American-style burger restaurant. It has a fun diner atmosphere serving burgers, fries and shakes, and it seemed to be a really popular hangout for families.
There’s also an ice cream parlour on-site, which naturally becomes part of the daily holiday routine for most children.
Another thing I liked was Iberostar’s focus on sustainability. The hotel uses a smart food waste management system, which felt like a positive and modern approach without making a huge show of it.
A Few Extra Tips From My Stay
One of the things I always enjoy doing when visiting resorts is exploring outside the hotel a little, and Playa de Muro is a great base for that.
A short bus ride takes you into Alcúdia Old Town, which is definitely worth visiting for a change of scenery. The cobbled streets, independent shops and relaxed cafés make it a lovely place for lunch and a wander away from the beach.
Another great option is hiring bikes to explore the area. The coastline around Playa de Muro is flat and cycle-friendly, making it an easy way to see more of this beautiful part of Majorca at your own pace.
‘The Overall Feeling of the Hotel
What stayed with me most after visiting Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village was simply how relaxed the atmosphere felt. It’s definitely family-focused, but not in an overwhelming way.
For families planning a multi-generational holiday in Majorca, especially those travelling with younger children and grandparents, I can completely see why this hotel has such a loyal following.
