Exploring Playa de Muro, Mallorca: My Iberostar Hotel Review
Exploring Playa de Muro, Mallorca: My Iberostar Hotel Review
I recently returned from a wonderful three-night educational visit to Playa de Muro, Mallorca, where I had the opportunity to experience several Iberostar hotels firsthand and explore one of Mallorca‘s most beautiful stretches of coastline.
If you're considering a family holiday, a multi-generational getaway, or simply a relaxing beach escape, Playa de Muro is a destination that deserves a place on your shortlist.
- Iberostar Selection Albufera Playa
During our stay, we were based at the Iberostar Selection Albufera Playa, a stylish four-star superior all-inclusive hotel located directly on the stunning Playa de Muro beachfront.
From the moment we arrived, I was impressed by the calm, contemporary feel of the hotel. The interiors are elegant and modern, creating a relaxing atmosphere throughout. The grounds are beautifully maintained, with mature planting and colourful native Mediterranean flowers adding character and charm.
The all-inclusive offering was exceptional. The buffet restaurant provided an enormous variety of food, with something to suit every taste and dietary requirement. I particularly loved the dedicated children's buffet, which made dining much easier for families. Despite the hotel's popularity, the dining experience felt calm and organised, with no queues and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
The hotel features several attractive pool areas, and because Albufera Playa is the more adult-focused side of the resort, it felt peaceful and relaxed throughout our stay. There is also a lovely spa, a well-equipped gym, and direct access to the beach.
One of my favourite features was the Star Café, located in the lobby area and open 24 hours a day. Whether you fancy a coffee, pastry or sandwich, it is available whenever you need it – a fantastic addition that guests really appreciate.
Dining is a real highlight here. Alongside the buffet restaurant, guests can enjoy several excellent à la carte restaurants, including a fabulous tapas restaurant where we enjoyed an outstanding meal, as well as Greek and Mexican dining options. These are included as part of the all-inclusive experience, adding excellent variety throughout your stay.
Evenings are centred around a spacious entertainment and bar area, with comfortable seating, professional entertainment and attentive service. We never struggled to find a seat, and the quality of both drinks and service was consistently impressive.
2. Albufera Playa & Albufera Park – Ideal for Multi-Generational Families
Next door sits Iberostar Selection Albufera Park. Although the two hotels have separate entrances and buffet restaurants, they are connected and share many facilities, including bars, entertainment venues and à la carte restaurants.
Albufera Park is very much the family-focused side of the resort. Here you'll find fantastic splash parks, children's pools, indoor play areas and Iberostar's excellent Star Camp children's clubs, which cater for different age groups.
One feature that really stood out was the giant slide in the reception area. Children can actually slide down from the upper floor while adults take the stairs – a simple but brilliant example of how welcome children are made to feel throughout the hotel.
For families travelling with grandparents, I genuinely think this combination works brilliantly. Grandparents can enjoy the quieter atmosphere of Albufera Playa, while younger families can stay at Albufera Park and take advantage of the children's facilities, all whilst remaining within the same resort complex.
For those wanting an extra touch of luxury, both hotels offer the Star Prestige upgrade. This includes enhanced room categories and access to stunning rooftop terraces with premium drinks, snacks and breathtaking views across Playa de Muro.
3. Iberostar Waves Playa de Muro
We also visited Iberostar Waves Playa de Muro, a four-star all-inclusive hotel that I absolutely loved.
The location is fantastic, right on the beach, with pool areas positioned so that parents can enjoy views of both the swimming pools and the sea at the same time.
The hotel offers spacious family rooms, excellent splash park facilities and a lovely pool area that feels slightly more grown-up and relaxed without being adults only.
The all-inclusive offering is excellent, but the standout feature for me was the beach restaurant. Positioned between the pool and the beach, it enjoys beautiful sea views and serves excellent buffet lunch.
The family rooms here were incredibly spacious too. If I were recommending a four-star family hotel in Playa de Muro, this would be very high on my list.
4. Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village
Situated next door to Waves Playa de Muro is the five-star Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village.
This hotel offers many of the same family-friendly facilities but with an added layer of luxury. The accommodation is beautifully appointed, the family facilities are excellent, and guests benefit from an expanded selection of dining experiences and à la carte restaurants.
For families looking to elevate their Mallorca holiday and enjoy five-star surroundings, this is a superb choice.
5. Iberostar Waves Alcudia Park
For more budget-conscious families, Iberostar Waves Alcudia Park provides an excellent alternative.
Located on the beach, it still offers many of the features families love, including children's clubs, fab splash park facilities and family-friendly dining options.
While it sits at the more affordable end of Iberostar's Playa de Muro portfolio, it still delivers the high standards, family focus and excellent service that the brand is known for.
A Visit to Alcúdia Old Town
No stay in Playa de Muro would be complete without a visit to Alcúdia Old Town.
Just 10 minutes by taxi or around 15 minutes by local bus, it feels completely different from the coastal resorts.
Behind its ancient walls you'll find cobbled streets, historic buildings, boutique shops, cafés, bars and excellent restaurants. It's the perfect place to spend an afternoon wandering, shopping or simply enjoying a chilled glass of rosé in the sunshine while soaking up the authentic Mallorcan atmosphere.
My Final Thoughts
Playa de Muro offers something for everyone, from luxury family holidays to fantastic value beach breaks.
For multi-generational families, I would highly recommend the combination of Iberostar Selection Albufera Playa and Albufera Park.
For families wanting a fantastic four-star all-inclusive experience, Iberostar Waves Playa de Muro was a real standout and one of my personal favourites.
For those seeking five-star luxury, Iberostar Selection Playa de Muro Village is exceptional.
And for families looking for great value without compromising on family facilities, Iberostar Waves Alcudia Park is an excellent choice.
Combined with one of Mallorca's finest beaches and the charm of nearby Alcúdia Old Town, Playa de Muro is a destination I would confidently recommend to families, couples and grandparents alike.
