My Journey Through China: Luxury, Culture & Wonder
I had always imagined China as vast, ancient, and endlessly fascinating—but nothing prepared me for what it felt like to experience it in person. From the moment I landed, everything felt elevated: the service, the comfort, the sense of discovery. Touring China wasn’t just a holiday. It was a journey into a world where modern luxury meets thousands of years of history, and every day reveals something extraordinary.
Beijing: Where Imperial Grandeur Meets Modern Elegance
My first stop was Beijing, a city that feels like stepping between two eras with every turn. One moment, I was standing in the vast courtyards of the Forbidden City, imagining emperors walking the same stone paths. Next, I was sipping tea in a sleek lounge overlooking the city skyline.
The highlight?
A private, early‑morning visit to the Great Wall. The air was cool, the mountains wrapped in mist, and for a moment, it felt like I had the entire world to myself. My guide shared stories that brought the Wall to life—tales of dynasties, battles, and the sheer human effort behind its creation.
Returning to my hotel each evening felt like entering a sanctuary: soft lighting, warm marble, and a level of service that made everything effortless.
Xi’an: Face to Face With the Terracotta Army
Nothing can prepare you for seeing the Terracotta Warriors in person. I walked into the vast hall and froze—thousands of life‑sized soldiers standing in silent formation, each one unique. It felt like stepping into a time capsule sealed for over 2,000 years.
My private guide pointed out details I would have missed: the hairstyles, the armour, the expressions carved into each face. It was one of the most humbling moments of my trip.
Guilin & Yangshuo: China’s Most Dreamlike Landscapes
From ancient history to natural beauty, my journey continued south to Guilin, where limestone peaks rise like emerald towers from the earth. I cruised along the Li River, watching fishermen glide past on bamboo rafts and water buffalo grazing along the banks.
My hotel overlooked the mountains, and each morning I woke to mist drifting between the peaks. It felt like living inside a painting.
Shanghai: The Future, Wrapped in Luxury
My final stop was Shanghai, a city that pulses with energy and elegance. I wandered the historic Bund, then crossed the river to stand beneath futuristic skyscrapers that glittered like stars.
In the evenings, I dined on world‑class cuisine—dumplings crafted with precision, delicate seafood, and cocktails infused with jasmine and lychee. Shanghai was the perfect finale: bold, glamorous, unforgettable.
Why Touring China Stayed With Me
What made this journey truly special was the balance of comfort, culture, and connection. Every day brought something new—ancient temples, serene landscapes, vibrant cities—yet everything felt seamless and deeply personal.
China is a place that stays with you.
A place that surprises you.
A place that changes you.
And I know I will return.
Regarding the Dress Code and other tips, please kindly note:
1) Sichuan Province has a subtropical monsoon climate. Because of its surrounding mountains, it also has a typical basin climate. In Sichuan, the spring comes early; it has a hot summer, cool autumn, and warm winter. The annual average temperature 16℃.
2) Sichuan has very strong sunshine; there is a big gap between the temperatures of the morning and evening. We recommend that tourists take sunscreen and long-sleeved clothes, sweaters and jackets. If going to a plateau, tourists are advised to wear warm clothes which are not too tight. Because of the strong sunlight, we suggest tourists wear sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen.
3} UK citizens can now travel to mainland China visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, business, or family visits.
