Beautiful Slovenia

Slovenia completely stole our hearts.

We based ourselves in beautiful Lake Bled, which was the perfect place for a short family adventure. Bled has that lovely balance of scenery, activities and relaxation, with the lake, the mountains and the castle all creating such a magical backdrop.

We visited Bled Castle, perched high above the lake, with the most incredible views across the water and surrounding mountains. It is one of those places that really makes you stop and take it all in.

One of the biggest thrills of the trip (for George anyway) was the summer toboggan ride. It was very steep, very fast and definitely got the adrenaline going, but it was such good fun and a real highlight.

We also hiked through Vintgar Gorge, which was absolutely beautiful. The walkway follows the river through the gorge, with crystal clear water, waterfalls and dramatic scenery all around. It felt peaceful, wild and very special.

White water rafting was another unforgettable experience. It was exciting, fun and just the right amount of adventurous, with amazing scenery all around us. A brilliant activity to do as a family and something we will definitely remember.

What made the trip work so well was the mix of adventure and downtime. We had busy mornings exploring, hiking and rafting, but also time to relax by the hotel pool and enjoy the sunshine.

Most importantly, it was such a special one-on-one time with George. Life is so busy, and having a few days together to explore, laugh, try new things and just enjoy each other’s company made it even more memorable.

Slovenia is such a fantastic choice for families who want something a little different. It is scenic, easy to explore, full of memorable experiences and perfect if you love lakes, mountains, fresh air and a bit of excitement.

For us, it was the perfect mix of wow moments, outdoor adventure, sunshine, hotel pool time and precious family memories, including trying the famous Bled cake.
