Be a LEGEND at Sea
My First Royal Caribbean Cruise Experience!
Legend of the Seas | Barcelona to Rome |
16-August 2026
After more than 36 years working in travel, I was incredibly excited to experience the Royal Caribbean brand for the first time.
Having previously cruised with Marella Cruises and Virgin Voyages, this was a wonderful opportunity to discover for myself what makes Royal Caribbean so popular. And what a way to do it... onboard Legend of the Seas, currently the largest cruise ship at sea!
As many of my customers know, I love experiencing holidays first hand whenever possible. It allows me to offer genuine advice, honest recommendations and personal insights based on real experiences.
Where to? SPAIN & ITALY
Barcelona Spain
Palma Majorca Spain
La Spezia Italy
Rome Italy
Naples Italy
First Impressions
Boarding in Barcelona was smooth, efficient and stress-free, and the excitement began the moment I stepped onboard.
My first impression? Simply WOW!
The scale of the ship is incredible. Every area feels bright, modern and thoughtfully designed. Despite the number of guests onboard, there was always plenty of space to relax and enjoy everything the ship had to offer.
Whether you're travelling as a couple, family, group of friends or as a solo traveller, there truly is something for everyone.
My Favourite Place Onboard
I was fortunate enough to stay in an Ocean View Balcony Cabin and, for me, this is always one of the highlights of any cruise.
There is nothing quite like waking up in the morning, making a coffee and watching the endless ocean stretch out before you from the comfort of your own cabin. It's peaceful, relaxing and the perfect way to start the day.
I always recommend a balcony cabin if the budget allows. It's one of those holiday upgrades that genuinely enhances the experience every single day. Whether you're enjoying a quiet morning coffee, watching the ship sail into port or listening to the gentle sound of the waves before bed, that private outdoor space is worth every penny.
Food, Fun and Entertainment
One thing Royal Caribbean certainly gets right is the variety of experiences available onboard.
During my stay, I dined at Izumi, Royal Caribbean's Japanese speciality restaurant, and it was undoubtedly one of my highlights. The experience was fun, interactive and entertaining, while the food itself was absolutely outstanding. From the quality of the ingredients to the presentation and flavours, it was an unforgettable evening that I would highly recommend.
When it came to entertainment, my favourite show was, without question, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The production was exceptional. The costumes, music, staging and performances brought the story to life beautifully and captivated the audience from beginning to end. It's the kind of show that appeals to both adults and children and perfectly showcases the high standard of entertainment available onboard.
Cruising Through the Mediterranean
Sailing from Barcelona towards Rome provided plenty of time to enjoy the ship while taking in the stunning Mediterranean scenery.
One of the things I love most about cruising is unpacking once and allowing the destinations to come to you. There's something wonderfully relaxing about watching the world drift by from the deck of a ship.
The sunsets were spectacular, the sea remained calm and each day brought a new perspective of the beautiful Mediterranean coastline.
What Stood Out Most?
Aside from the impressive ship itself, it was the atmosphere and service that stood out most.
The crew were consistently friendly, welcoming and helpful. Every interaction felt genuine and personal, and it's often these little touches that transform a good holiday into a truly memorable one.
Royal Caribbean has clearly created an experience that combines adventure, entertainment and relaxation in equal measure.
What Can You Expect Onboard Legend of the Seas?
As Royal Caribbean's newest Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas is packed with facilities and experiences designed for guests of all ages. Whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, family fun or world-class entertainment, you'll find plenty to keep you occupied from morning until night.
Some of the standout features include:
• Category 6 Waterpark, one of the largest waterpark experiences at sea, with thrilling waterslides and plenty of excitement for adrenaline seekers.
• Seven different pools and multiple whirlpools, offering everything from lively social spaces to peaceful areas to unwind and enjoy the sunshine.
• FlowRider® surf simulator, where guests can try their hand at surfing and bodyboarding.
• Crown's Edge®, a unique aerial adventure attraction that combines a ropes course with spectacular ocean views.
• Mini golf, climbing activities, children's splash zones and family-focused neighbourhoods, ensuring younger cruisers are entertained throughout their holiday.
• A wide variety of dining venues, from casual cafés and family restaurants to speciality dining experiences.
• Spectacular entertainment, including West End-style productions, live music venues, comedy, themed experiences, and immersive shows not to mention an ice rink!
What impressed me most was that despite the ship's incredible size and range of activities, it never felt overcrowded. Whether I wanted a quiet corner to relax with a coffee, enjoy my balcony, watch a show or simply take in the Mediterranean views, there was always a perfect place to do so.
My Verdict
After four nights onboard Legend of the Seas, I can completely understand why Royal Caribbean enjoys such a loyal following.
From the spectacular entertainment and outstanding dining to the beautiful accommodation and exceptional service, the entire experience exceeded my expectations.
Most importantly, I now have valuable first hand knowledge that I can share with my customers when helping them choose their next cruise holiday.
Would I sail with Royal Caribbean again?
Absolutely... there are so many different ships to choose from, Legend is the largest with 10,000 passengers and in the height of season is at maximum capacity, if this is too large for you, there are plenty of other suitable options with Royal Caribbean.
The Seminar at sea with Royal Caribbean involved training about the brand itself and the man y other incredible ships in the fleet. I
Being your Royal Caribbean expert I am proud to be able to advise the best ship for you and your family. The knowledge and expertise gained during my time onboard was brilliant but most of all priceless.
So If you're considering your first cruise, looking to try Royal Caribbean, or wondering whether a balcony cabin is worth the upgrade, I'd be delighted to share my experience and help you find the perfect sailing.
After all, there's nothing better than recommending a holiday you've experienced yourself.
Happy Cruising! 🚢☀️🌊
