3 Days Bangkok
3 Days Bangkok
The Grand Palace & Temple of the Reclining Buddah did not disappoint and these must be on every visitors to do list. Make sure you dress accordingly as they do have a strict dress policy! Our guide was brilliant and gave us fantastic background information and insights. We then transferred by water taxi to the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel for lunch. Another beautiful Hotel right on the river. We tackled our very own Thai Cooking class before eating, I struggle with anything beyond the microwave so don’t ask!
A fleet of Tuk Tuk’s then took us back to the Shangr La, an experience not for the faint hearted but don’t miss it if you get the chance. After a bit of retail therapy we again found ourselves on the river heading for the Anantara Riverside Hotel for a visit followed by dinner. This was my favourite of all the hotels we saw. It has very much a resort feel and you could easily spend a week here. A recent refurbishment has left the hotel with a real wow factor again with a beautiful riverside setting. After a fantastic buffet meal with what seemed like a million choices we headed back across the river to Asiatique. This is a one stop shopping and dining complex by the river and worth a couple of hours of your time whilst in Bangkok.
One or two more cocktails and another early night(4am) ready for a 7.15 departure the next day to visit the famous Floating Markets. The 2 hour coach trip (don’t know why I had a headache?) was worth every second. Although a bit touristy it offered a real insight into life outside the city and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We then spent the afternoon back at the Shangri La’s beautiful pool. Dinner tonight was spent on board The Horizon the hotel’s own Riverboat Dining. We enjoyed an International Buffet and had the most amazing evening cruising up and down the river. This is a great option for any guest staying at the hotel and comes highly recommended.
We then braved the Night Market at Patpong ! Well I really don’t know where to start and it’s not often I am lost for words! You can buy anything imaginable here and bartering is key. Fake designer goods are everywhere and I managed to pick up a few bargains. After surviving 3 hours here we needed a drink so we headed for The Skybar at the top of the Leboa Hotel. This is the world’s highest open air bar, perched 820 feet in the air. One word…unbelievable!
And so Sunday dawned and it was time to leave.
Bangkok has left a lasting impression and I will be back. Perfect as a stopover destination and a real must as part of a Far East multi centre holiday.
