My Top Ten Destinations

Perfect for a Small Group Tour

I spend so much of my time planning adventures for others, but that doesn’t stop me from daydreaming about my own travel wish list. For me, the best trips combine breathtaking nature, rich culture, fascinating history, and unique wildlife – all explored in a way that feels respectful and sustainable. That’s why I lean toward small group tours that support local communities and avoid the pitfalls of mass tourism. Here are 10 destinations I’m still dreaming of, and why they’ve made my list.

1. The Philippines – Islands, Smiles & Sunsets

I’m drawn to the Philippines for its mix of turquoise waters, lush jungles, and vibrant local culture. Island-hopping can be tricky to arrange, so a small group trip would let me enjoy it stress-free while ensuring I connect with locally run guesthouses, community guides, and authentic food experiences.

2. Chile & Patagonia – For the Wild at Heart

Few places on earth offer landscapes as dramatic as Chile – from desert moonscapes to icy fjords. I’d love to experience this with a group of like-minded travellers, hiking and exploring responsibly while supporting local outfitters and communities who help protect these fragile environments.

3. Belize – Where Jungle Meets Reef

Belize offers that magical blend of history, nature, and culture. Exploring Mayan ruins with local guides, snorkelling the reef with eco-conscious operators, and staying in small community lodges would mean my trip supports the people who protect this paradise.

4. Madagascar – A World Apart

Madagascar’s unique wildlife has always fascinated me – lemurs, chameleons, and baobab trees found nowhere else. But it’s also a place where tourism can directly help conservation and local livelihoods, making a small, respectful tour the best way to explore.

5. Namibia – Desert Dreams

The sweeping landscapes of Namibia – from sand dunes to salt pans – are simply unforgettable. What excites me most is that many safaris here are run in partnership with local communities, so joining a small group helps conserve wildlife while creating jobs.

6. Georgia – Wine, Mountains & Warmth

Georgia combines culture, history, and breathtaking landscapes in one little country. I’d love to wander monasteries, hike the Caucasus, and share meals with local families – experiences that feel real and meaningful, far removed from tourist crowds.

7. Puglia – A Feast for the Senses

Food is one of the best ways to connect with culture, and Puglia is Italy at its most authentic. I’d love to explore small family-run farms, taste olive oils and cheeses, and learn pasta-making from locals. A small group food tour makes sure these traditions are supported, not replaced by mass tourism.

8. Croatia – Sailing into the Sunset

The Adriatic coast has a natural beauty that can be spoiled by big cruise ships, so a small-group sailing trip feels just right. Dropping anchor in hidden coves, visiting family-owned tavernas, and exploring historic towns with local guides would make this adventure both personal and sustainable.

9. Uzbekistan – Treasures of the Silk Road

The Silk Road cities of Samarkand and Bukhara are full of history, culture, and craftsmanship. Exploring them with a knowledgeable local guide means not just ticking off landmarks, but truly understanding the heritage and supporting artisans who keep traditions alive.

10. Greenland & The Arctic – Icy Frontiers

For me, the Arctic represents both raw natural beauty and the urgent need to travel responsibly. Seeing glaciers, northern lights, and Arctic wildlife would be a dream – but doing so with a small expedition group that prioritises sustainability ensures these fragile landscapes are respected.

Why Small Group Travel?

Small group tours give me the chance to travel more slowly and meaningfully. They take away the stress of planning, but more importantly, they allow me to support local communities, connect with cultures in a respectful way, and enjoy nature without leaving a heavy footprint. These 10 destinations are my dream list – not just for their beauty, but for the chance to experience them in a way that feels authentic and ethical.
