The Wharekauhau estate is set on a 5,000 acre working sheep station opposite Ocean Beach in Palliser Bay. Guests can stay in Cottage Suites, the Owner’s Cottage or Wharepapa Cottage, each offering a luxurious environment where you’ll feel right at home as soon as you step through the door.

There’s a wealth of activities to enjoy at Wharekauhau;  experience an insight into local farming the New Zealand way, take a tour of the historic coastline, walk through the magnificent grounds or explore on a mountain bike. If you fancy something a bit more adventurous, there’s also horse trekking, ATV Quad biking and clay pigeon shooting.

Wharepapa Cottage

Wharepapa Cottage enjoys a secluded location on the sloping pastures of Wharekauhau and provides perfect family accommodation. The cottage has three bedrooms, one bathroom and a large open-plan living/kitchen/dining area. Car hire is recommended as Wharepapa Cottage is approximately 2.5 miles from the main lodge. Restaurants

Farm-to-table dining is practiced at Wharekauhau with everything sourced fresh from the estate gardens or surrounding area. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the country kitchen and lunch can also be taken there, in the sun-soaked courtyard or you may choose to take a picnic instead.

The dinner menu at Wharekauhau changes daily and features contemporary twists on local and classic New Zealand dishes. There’s a well-stocked bar and a good selection of fine New Zealand wines.
