More About New Zealand North Island

It‘s easy to be passionate about New Zealand due to the warmth of the people, the breathtaking scenery and the entire Maori culture to absorb. Head for the North Island where you will find the cosmopolitan cities of Auckland and Wellington.

Auckland, known as the ‘City of Sails‘ is home to approximately a third of New Zealand's population so it's a busy city with a bustling waterfront. Visit the Auckland Museum, take in the views from the top of the impressive SkyTower or take the ferry to the volcanic island of Rangitoto. Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, has a vibrant café culture and plenty of sightseeing opportunities.

For truly awe-inspiring scenery, head to Taupo and Tongariro where you will see snowy peaks, rocky craters, rolling streams and emerald-coloured lakes. This is an extremely popular area with hikers due to the challenging and supremely enjoyable Tongariro Crossing one-day trek. If beaches are more your thing, head to the east coast where you'll find golden sands at Coromandel and beautiful long stretches of beach at Bay of Plenty.

Hawke's Bay is the place to be if you love fine, fresh locally produced food and top-class wine. This is an area that is famed for its wines and you can take your time to work your way around some of the region's 72 vineyards including Craggy Range and the Te Mata Estate Winery. The farmers market is bursting with artisan products, local cheeses and meats and an abundance of fresh fruit - absolutely delicious! Make sure you take time to stop in Napier which is full of Art Deco architecture which you can take in by a guided tour in a vintage car or by road train.
