More About Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is the second largest Canary Island and offers visitors an amazing array of over 150 beaches, lots of sunshine and a very laid-back way of life – perfect for a little rest and relaxation. Located off the west coast of Africa, the island lies just 12 miles to the south of Lanzarote and is a perfect choice for a luxury holiday. Corralejo is considered to be a major tourist resort and boasts a good selection of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and hotels. There‘s a pretty harbour, a lovely promenade, excellent beaches, and a nearby waterpark and you're also close to Dunes Natural Park which is a simply stunning 10 km stretch of sand dunes - you'll feel like you've been transported to the desert! Jandia lies on the southeast coast and has a historic old town, a soft sandy beach and plenty of watersports. Indulge in a spot of windsurfing before choosing one of the many restaurants in the town and having a leisurely lunch of perfectly prepared freshly caught seafood. Caleta de Fuste has a lovely sheltered horseshoe-shaped beach, a busy market and plenty of hotel complexes. This is another great place for families and couples - there's a waterpark nearby and a golf course or you could just stay at the beach and enjoy the many watersports on offer. There are plenty of local attractions if you want to venture out including glass bottom catamaran cruises, boat excursions with snorkelling on Lobos Island Natural Park, adventurous dune buggy historical tours from Corralejo and the wonderful Oasis Wildlife Park Fuerteventura which has a wealth of animals and beautiful natural gardens, Accommodation on the island is excellent with a good choice of hotels for families, including some that are all-inclusive, and several adult-only hotels that are perfect for a couples' break. Corralejo Dunes

Situated on the northern tip of the island, the spectacular soft white sands of the Corralejo Dunes are a protected nature park and is a must see destination for any visit to Feurtentura. The dunes are about 10km long stretching from Puerto Remedio to La Salina and they are the home for a number of animal life and plant varieties.

Betancuria is the former capital of Fuerteventura, and was totally destroyed in 1593 by pirate Jaban. It was eventually rebuilt by the local population and continued to be the islands’ capital until 1834. Today, it’s very popular tourist destination, with a number of souvenir and handicraft shops.
