One fabulous night in Barcelona with the locals !!

A few years ago I visited Barcelona with my best friend, when we get together, loads of laughs are guaranteed! We stayed in The Catalonia Plaza Cataluna, which I would recommend for location, just off the Place de Cataluna at the the top of the Famous "Ramblas". A great hotel with a roof top pool, its a combination of sophisticated modern touches, but the outside is more traditional in style. We had pre-planned all our days of "culture" and wandering around and even looked up some night time hot spots! We both have a great love for live music and had found some recommendations for a Spanish guitar bar called "Quilombo". We did the typical English thing, going out too early! We arrived at the bar at 7.30pm, it was a little quiet, just us and another couple in this dimly lit cellar! We started talking to the staff, they advised us it got going later and recommended a restaurant frequented by the locals for us to eat and to call back later. Off we pottered to the restaurant , we had a great meal and a  little too much wine ! On the way back about 11pm we passed Quilombo, its sounded a lot livelier, the bar owner recognised us from earlier and practically dragged us in! The bar could not have looked any different to earlier in the evening, not a space to sit ,everyone was crammed in like a tin of sardines, it was full of local people having the best time, chatting , laughing and joining in with the three guys on guitars. We felt a little out of place not being Spanish! The owner made a space for us both, squashed in between two tables, we perched our selves on what resembled milking stools! We just sat there laughed and said "Well we might us well join in" at this point my friend was handed a tambourine which cause much hilarity and away we went, clapping, cheering and having a fantastic night , with the help of some sangria or course ! As it reached the early hours, we thought we would make a move, we had to virtually throw ourselves up the stairs to get through the crowds , it was still packed at 3 am ! The owner thanked us for coming and we made our way back to the hotel. I have to say it goes down as one of the best nights out and you have to go if you get the opportunity. Before writing this I had a look to see if the bar was still going and it is - ranked 22 out of 668 on trip advisor  !! Like I say worth a visit most definitely.
