Why Singapore Should Be Your Next Stop…
If you’re craving a destination that’s vibrant, diverse, and effortlessly blends the traditional with the futuristic, look no further than Singapore. This tiny city-state packs a serious punch—think towering gardens that light up the night, street food that’s earned Michelin stars, and neighbourhoods where you can experience multiple cultures in a single afternoon. Clean, safe, and endlessly fascinating, Singapore is more than just a stopover. It’s a place where every corner has a story, every dish tells a history, and every experience feels like something out of the future.
A City Where the World Meets Asia
In just one day, you can wander through the colourful streets of Little India, admire ornate temples in Chinatown, and savour rich Malay flavours in Kampong Glam. Singapore celebrates a beautiful harmony of cultures, reflected in its architecture, cuisine, and festivals. From Deepavali and Chinese New Year to Hari Raya Puasa, you’re never far from a vibrant celebration.
Hawker Food That Rivals Fine Dining
Forget white tablecloths—Singapore’s best meals are often served under tin roofs in bustling hawker centres. From Hainanese chicken rice and laksa to char kway teow and chilli crab, the food scene is an unforgettable adventure for your taste buds. UNESCO even recognised Singapore’s hawker culture as an intangible cultural heritage.
Futuristic Attractions with a Green Heart
Where else can you find skyscrapers wrapped in vertical gardens and glowing trees that light up the night? Gardens by the Bay, Flower Dome, and Cloud Forest are must-visit. I was lucky to catch Tulipmania at the Flower Dome—a stunning burst of colour inspired by Dutch landscapes. And the Cloud Forest? Like stepping into a misty dreamworld, complete with a towering indoor waterfall. Nearby, Marina Bay Sands offers panoramic skyline views and that iconic rooftop infinity pool—pure luxury with a view.
Easy, Effortless Exploration
Getting around Singapore is a breeze. The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is clean, fast, and user-friendly, making it easy to jump from shopping on Orchard Road to beach vibes on Sentosa Island. Need a ride? Singapore’s version of Uber is called Grab—it’s super reliable and affordable.
A Safe, Smart, and Stylish Destination
Singapore is one of the world’s safest cities, making it ideal for solo travellers, couples, and families alike. It’s also a hub of innovation and sustainability, where smart city planning meets cutting-edge design—all while maintaining green spaces and a deep respect for heritage.
Raffles: A Step Back in Time
Raffles Hotel is a true oasis in the heart of the city. From its grand colonial architecture to its serene courtyards, every detail whispers elegance and history. Sipping a Singapore Sling where it was first created, strolling through palm-lined gardens—it’s pure magic. If you’re visiting, don’t miss it.
Sentosa Island: Pure Fun in the Sun
Just 15 minutes from downtown, Sentosa is Singapore’s ultimate island escape. Once a British military fortress, it’s now packed with activities—Skyline Luge, iFly, bungy jumps, ziplining, and family favourites like Universal Studios, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and the S.E.A. Aquarium. Add white-sand beaches and luxury resorts, and you’ve got the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
Singapore Might Be Small—But It’s Mighty
Whether you’re a foodie, culture-lover, city explorer, or beach-seeker, Singapore checks every box. It’s sleek yet soulful, compact yet full of surprises. One visit, and you’ll understand why this city leaves such a big impression.
Getting There
Flight time from the UK is around 13 hours non-stop, with direct flights available from London Heathrow via Singapore Airlines or British Airways.
Best Time to Visit
Singapore is a year-round destination with a warm, tropical climate, but to avoid the wettest months, aim for February to April, when there’s more sunshine and less rainfall.
Top Tip: Always wear sunscreen (even when it’s overcast!) and keep a small umbrella in your bag. The weather can switch quickly, but it never slows the city down.
Hotels Visited during my trip include: The Artyzen, Capella Sentosa, Shangri-La, Parkroyal Pickering, The Outpost Hotel, The Barricks, Pan Pacific & Raffles
