The Sarojin – Thailand’s Hidden Gem of Tranquility
I’ve just returned from an incredible trip to Thailand, and one of the absolute highlights was a 2-night stay at The Sarojin. It’s not often a hotel blows me away to the point I’d call it one of my favourites ever, but this one truly did. From the moment you step through the open-air lobby and take in the stunning view over the grounds, you’re instantly wrapped in a sense of calm. The peacefulness, the fragrance in the air, the gentle breeze through the trees, it’s pure magic.
Set within 10 acres of lush tropical gardens in Khao Lak, just an hour north of Phuket, The Sarojin is a serene, adults-only boutique resort that feels utterly intimate and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where time slows down and every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to create a personalised experience.
A Story of Resilience and Heart
The Sarojin’s origin story is both moving and inspiring. The hotel was originally scheduled to open just before the devastating 2004 Boxing Day tsunami struck. Everything was wiped out. But through the incredible resilience and dedication of the local team, the hotel was rebuilt from the ground up and in a heartfelt tribute, each room is named after one of the original staff who helped bring the dream to life.
The team here is primarily local, and their warmth, professionalism, and pride in their work shine through in every interaction. Staff are rewarded after a year of service with their own two-night stay, so they can truly understand the guest experience. There are no signs around the hotel either, because, as they say, “you don’t have signs at home.” This personal, almost homely approach works beautifully and plays a huge part in the relaxed and genuine atmosphere.
Thoughtful Touches & All-Day Indulgence
One of the standout features is the all-day à la carte breakfast, served from 6:30am to 6:30pm. Whether you’re an early bird or love a lazy morning (or afternoon!), you’ll be spoilt for choice with beautifully presented dishes and even a cheeky ‘Holiday Juice’ (yes, it includes alcohol!).
The resort offers just 56 luxurious rooms and residences, each elegantly styled and nestled within the gardens. Many have private terraces or plunge pools, and the layout ensures privacy and peace at every turn.
Signature Experiences & Local Adventures
Although we only had one night here and didn’t get to try everything, I know The Sarojin offers an exceptional list of experiences designed to showcase the local area. These include:
• Phang Nga Bay by longtail boat – explore dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden sea caves, and visit a floating village
• Khao Sok Rainforest & Elephant Care – canoe down the Sok River and meet rescued elephants in an ethical setting
• Rachaprapha Dam & Chiew Larn Lake – famous for its emerald waters and karst limestone scenery
• Sunset cocktails and private sundowner experiences on the beach or by the pool
• And the Ton Pling waterfall, just a short drive away, the hotel offers a free shuttle service, or you can arrange a private dining experience there (which I highly recommend!). We visited the waterfall during the day and even without the evening dining setup, it was absolutely beautiful. I can only imagine how magical it would be by candlelight.
Dining at The Sarojin is something truly special. You can tailor your experience to suit the occasion, whether it’s a private candlelit dinner by the waterfall, a sunrise beach picnic, or a romantic meal in your own sala. The hotel really goes above and beyond to create unforgettable moments.
Diving & Snorkelling
The resort also offers diving and snorkelling trips aboard their own private boat, Lady Sarojin, typically available November to May, subject to sea conditions. As this can vary, I’d recommend checking directly with the hotel or via the Pure Luxury Concierge team to confirm availability during your stay.
Final Thoughts
You can see why this resort has such a loyal following, it’s a peaceful retreat, a soulful escape, and a place where luxury is defined by thoughtful service, not fuss. Everything about The Sarojin invites you to slow down, connect with nature, and savour every moment.
It’s absolutely on my list to return to and next time, I’ll definitely be staying longer!
