What makes an amazing 5* holiday experience?

As I am sitting at my desk working my way through a number of holiday quotes and suggestions for 2016 there are a few hotels that I am continually drawn back to and have no hesitation in recommending to couples, families and everything in between....The lovely Ikos Olivia Resort in Halkidiki is one of them. Having worked in travel for so many years I have spent quite a lot of time trying to figure out what sets one hotel apart from another. Is it the rating system? Perhaps the cuisine and beverages available. Having great facilities sure makes a difference as does the location and then of course there are other factors to consider like the climate, the locals and things to do once you arrive. And then....there are the people that work work there who probably factor as my number one differentiator. When I go on holiday I want to relax and unwind. I want people to care (in a non obtrusive way) that I am enjoying some R&R and that, as it doesn't happen often, the time is really precious. The lovely team at IKOS make you feel special, there is a genuine warmth and determination to get things right. When I visited the hotel had just opened and there was much to learn. But when you wear a smile on your face which is genuine and you try and get things right without delay you really couldn't ask for more. The rooms at this hotel are lovely, spacious and airy. The resort setting is gorgeous and for those who would rather enjoy the pool area perhaps taking time up to catch up with the most recent best seller then hey presto....this resort has just the solution you need with amazing cocktails to boot. In the evening you can reminisce about your day in the sunshine and enjoy a lovely meal whilst looking forward to a post dinner drink and relax in the spacious lounge area (close to the bar). Venture a bit further afield and forego your all inclusive for one night a sample a local taverna where you can guarantee you will be made to feel at home. I have a few favourite hotels (another gem in Crete, one in Paris, Las Vegas, New York and Portugal) and this one is definitely one of them.
