Have you been to Perth? Did you regret it?

Have you been to Perth? Did you regret it?
If so, you are not alone; many people regret going to Perth!
Most people don’t regret Perth because it isn’t worth visiting…
What most people regret is that they treated it like a 24-hour stop before the rest of Australia.
If you only see Elizabeth Quay, stroll in Kings Park, stay in/near the CBD and leave the next morning, let me assure you – you will be missing one of Australia’s great state capitals. Perth is known for its 3000 hours of sunshine a year, friendly locals, and
beautiful beaches, but it also has so much more to offer.
It is the capital and largest city of Western Australia, with a rich history and a vibrant culture.
Don’t make the same mistake that most people do, stay a while in Perth and explore more of this fantastic city – itineraries for Perth should really consist of at least 5 nights and longer if you intend to visit some of the must-see sights not far from the city.
Be a savvy traveller and do Perth differently.
Mix historical sites with rooftop bars, wine-tasting experiences, neighbourhood food spots, and local districts full of character.
Here’s where first-timers mess up:
• They stay in the Central Business District and do not explore beyond it
• They underestimate the size of the city – Perth is one of the most spread-out cities in Australia, so planning is essential.
• They disregard how the weather can affect daily life – it can get really hot in Perth!
• Eating at tourist-heavy plazas with inflated prices
• Ignoring neighbourhoods like Subiaco, West Perth and the Burswood Peninsula
Here’s how to experience Perth the right way:
✅ Stay at least 5 nights
Perth will reward you if you allow it to be more than a transit stop.
✅ Sightseeing is best done early morning or late afternoon.
Meaning you can linger over sundowners for longer!
✅Stay in a smarter area
Subiaco (Subi), West Perth and the Burswood Peninsula all offer great places to stay
✅ Eat where locals eat
Walk away from the main roads. Head to the Victoria Park area for the modern cafes, restaurants and bars that line the strip, with the wide variety of cuisines mirroring the melting pot of cultures which call Vic Park home.
✅ Be sure to visit some of Perth’s beaches, especially late afternoon / early evening, when the lively streets offer outdoor dining and some of the best sunset views
✅Be sure to visit Fremantle (Freo to the locals) and Rottnest Island (just beautiful and home to the quokkas), and many more choices are available depending on the duration of your visit.
✅Always wear high-factor sun protection
What smart travellers know about Perth:
• If you love sunsets and beaches, you’ve already got two reasons to visit Perth and Western Australia, because the East Coast may have both, but the West Coast does them so much better.
• An apartment with parking is a great option in Perth, Northbridge & Subaico are the preferred choice of many, but there are, of course,e plenty of hotel options throughout the city & suburbs.
• For low-cost dining, try some street food. Try The Acai Corner’s Riverfront Bowls.
• For a higher-end dining experience, head to Art of Seafood on the Swan River.
• Relaxing in the park or taking a river cruise are good ways to introduce yourself gently to all that Perth has to offer.
• People who say “Perth surprised me” usually stayed longer.
Truth is…
Perth is far more than a gateway to Australia.
But first-time visitors who rush it often leave with the wrong impression.
The travellers who slow down usually wonder why nobody warned them how good it is.
And if that‘s not enough, then here are my personal
TOP TWO TIPS FOR PERTH
1) Take a walk out to Heirisson Island before sunset, the kangaroos should be out and about at this time, and you can then see the city light up for your return walk.
2) See if you can get tickets to an Aussie Rules game; it‘s a great way to spend an evening with the friendly locals.
Have you been to Perth, or only considered it a stopover?
Perhaps it's time to rethink Perth
