Once in a Lifetime...

Once in a Lifetime...

Having just returned from the most fabulous multi centre FAM trip to Malaysia & Singapore I could not wait to share my experiences with you..   I had the great pleasure to experience first hand these amazing cultural destinations and the luxury products and experiences on offer. Taking advantage of the new BA direct Service from LHR to Kuala Lumpur the trip got off to a very good start – Club World was just fabulous and the crew onboard could not do enough for us – having settled down with a glass of champagne on take off, I managed to polish off a 3 course dinner with a couple of Kir Royales and settled down for a movie before tucking myself in bed for the night.   Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur we had a very swift connection over to Kuala Terrenganu. My home for the next two nights was the beautiful Tanjong Jara Resort –  from the moment I arrived I had a distinct feel that the pace of life here was unhurried and you couldnt help but immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings – I loved the traditional elegant malay style and the rooms did not disappoint either – spacious, authentic and luxurious. Breakfast was served in the Di Atas Sungei Restaurant which literally sits above the Dungun river that flows into the South China Sea – stunning setting. Our first adventure was a snorkelling expedition to Tenggol Island – part of the Terengganu Marine Park.  After an exhilarating speedboat journey (which I now understand why we needed to wear life jackets) !!!!  we arrived at the most beautiful location!  Words cant do it justice. This was the most idyllic setting – crystal clear waters with a lush green backdrop, hammocks swaying gently in the mid morning sun …  certainly had the WOW factor. This area is still a well-kept secret amongst the diving community which meant that the reef was in perfect condition – the snorkelling was great fun – we were so fortunate to see baby reef sharks!!  Unfortunately the turtles at Turtle Point seemed to have gone on their jollies so no sightings there but it was the most fabulous day! After another speedy boat ride back!! we returned to the calm oasis of Tanjong Jara and shared our stories of the day over a very refreshing and much needed Mojito.  Dinner was served in the Nelayan Restaurant which means “Fisherman” in Malay.  Fabulous setting with views of the South China Sea offering a beautiful relaxed dining experience. Our final morning began with a large full english breakfast which was then very swiftly followed by some early morning exercise known locally as “Sucimurni” which apparently should NEVER be carried out on an empty stomach! Ooops.  Great start to the day, lots of laughing and set us in good stead to commence our journey over to Borneo. Upon arrival in Kota Kinabulu we took a private boat transfer over to the beautiful Gaya Island Resort which lies within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park off the coast of Kota Kinabulu. Such an idyllic location – perfect for honeymooners or those looking for peace and tranquility in a beautiful tropical environment.  The resort is set within a marine conservation area and welcomes transport on foot.  Guests are invited to engage in cultural and diving excursions, forested trails, culinary lessons or simpy kick off their shoes and relax with a fabulous on site Spa Village.  A highlight for me was the Tavajun Trek through the jungle watch out for the bearded pig (yes you heard it right!) and the cheeky proboscis monkeys! Dining was a real experience here too – Fishermans Cove Restaurant is situated on the rooftop with a breathtaking view of Mount Kinabalu – offering seafood themed dishes using the freshest ingredients. The following morning was a real treat!  We were off to visit the Shangri La Rasa Ria Resort & Spa which houses its very own nature reserve and orangutan rehabilitation centre!  This was a stunning property where you can experience both luxury living and Borneo Jungle! – I was surprised just how family friendly this property was, set on a beautiful beach front with so many activities such as guided treks, a tree top canopy walk horse riding, kids club, golf course and of course the major highlight – a rare opportunity to meet orangutans in the reserve's rehabilitation centre – what an amazing experience to see these creatures in their natural habitat!  Just fantastic! Later the same day we had the opportunity of visiting the sister property  - Shangri La Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa – another fabulous property ideal for those guests who prefer to stay closer to the City but yet still situated in a tropical location – this property is ideal for those who love Diving – so many dive sites to experience nearby and ideal gateway to many of the smaller islands/marine park. Following a very exciting day we were welcomed back to our beautiful Island for our last supper - a Tribal Dinner on the beach – wow what a setting – an amazing way to end the most fabulous 3 nights at this stunning property – we were treated to a delicious seafood barbeque, fine wines and some fabulous dancing!!!  well it was until we joined in!! When I thought this fabulous trip couldnt get any better.. it did – we continued our travels to Singapore to spend two amazing nights at Raffles!!  This has to be Singapore's most graceful landmark and is the absolute essence of colonial luxury.  We were greeted at the airport with VIP Transfers and when we pulled up outside we knew it was going to be special – we were seated and immediately served our first “Singapore Sling” !  After a fabulous site inspection which included champagne in the presidential suite (where the queen stays!!!) dinner was served in Long Bar Steakhouse  and was just amazing – this had to be the best steak I have ever had! and was cooked to perfection .  We then sipped cocktails in the Long Bar (home of the legendary singapore sling) and threw a lot of peanuts on the floor (well at each other mostly!) The following morning we were up bright and early for our guided City Tour learning how feng shui played a major role behind many of the buildings and structures.  Lunch was served at the Shangri La Hotel which was fantastic – very impressive property with some fabulous rooms and they served the most amazing buffet style lunch with 18 food stations! We were all spoilt for choice and ended up with every type of food possible on our plates!  Not forgetting the deserts!! We continued on to the Singapore Flyer which offer great views of the City and allowed us to get our bearings and great photo opportunities. I loved Singapore – fabulous for shopping, so pack some comfy shoes so you can shop til you drop! Orchard Road is famed for its super malls, explore the small shops and markets of China Town and for the best designer brands take a trip to Marina Bay Sands. Our final evening was at the Mandarin Oriental which is another favourite of mine – great location with incredible views of the night race track for all the Formula 1 Fans – another fantastic dinner was served and the night continued at “Altitude” – the highest rooftop bar in Singapore. Sadly our trip was to come to an end -  hand on heart I had the most amazing experience – one which I will never forget – some major highlights for me and experiences that I will treasure – thank you so much Pure Luxury and to your fabulous team for making this a trip of a lifetime!
