# NIKO Seaside Resort MGallery: Rooms, Dining, Bars & Local Tips
In May, my friend and I escaped to Crete for a three-night break at NIKO Seaside Resort MGallery in Agios Nikolaos, and it was exactly the reset we needed. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by incredibly attentive staff, breathtaking views across Mirabello Bay and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that instantly made us switch off from everyday life. As an adults-only hotel, it felt peaceful and sophisticated without ever being pretentious, making it the perfect base for a short luxury getaway. The resort sits right on the seafront in one of Crete‘s most picturesque towns and combines contemporary design with effortless Mediterranean charm.
We were lucky with the weather, enjoying wall-to-wall sunshine throughout our stay. Most mornings started with a leisurely breakfast overlooking the sea before spending hours relaxing around the hotel‘s stunning rooftop pools. The breakfast deserves a special mention – a mix of freshly prepared dishes, local Cretan specialities and all the classic favourites, making it very easy to linger over a second coffee while planning the day.
One of the things I loved most about NIKO was its location. While the pools and sea views make it tempting never to leave the hotel, Agios Nikolaos is a charming town that's perfect for exploring on foot. Within minutes, you can wander around the beautiful Lake Voulismeni, browse independent boutiques, stop for waterfront cocktails or discover traditional tavernas tucked away along the winding streets.
## Our Room
NIKO offers a range of stylish room categories, from contemporary sea-view rooms to luxurious suites with private plunge pools. Many rooms are designed to maximise the incredible views across Mirabello Bay, while the suites with private pools are ideal for a special occasion or romantic escape. We particularly loved the modern design, comfortable furnishings and thoughtful touches throughout the resort.
## Exploring Agios Nikolaos
One afternoon,n we spent hours wandering through the streets surrounding the lake, discovering small independent shops and local artisan stores. We particularly enjoyed browsing Ambrosia & Nectar for unique gifts and local products, while Gusto Store and MINOS | Skate shop | Surf shop offered a more contemporary shopping experience. For authentic local produce and souvenirs, Ariston Lab is also worth a visit.
## Beach Bars & Lunch Spots
For a relaxed lunch with a sea view, our favourite spot was Amoodi, just a short walk from the hotel. Set beside one of the area's prettiest beaches, it's perfect for combining a swim with cocktails and lunch by the water. Another excellent choice is Kimzu Sea Lounge, which offers a stylish beachfront atmosphere, comfortable loungers and fantastic cocktails overlooking the bay.
## Evening Dining Around The Lake
As the sun began to set, we loved strolling into town for dinner around Lake Voulismeni. One of the highlights was CELESTE LAKEFRONT, where you can enjoy beautiful lake views as the lights begin to reflect on the water. For traditional Cretan flavours, Mitato Agios Nikolaos Restaurant is a fantastic choice, while Archontiko and Ofou to lo are perfect for a memorable dinner overlooking the waterfront.
## My Top Tips For Staying At NIKO
* Book a sea-view room if possible – waking up to Mirabello Bay is worth it.
* Spend at least one afternoon around the rooftop pools with a cocktail in hand.
* Explore the town on foot; everything is within easy walking distance.
* Visit Lake Voulismeni both during the day and at night – it has a completely different atmosphere after sunset.
* Reserve popular waterfront restaurants in advance during peak season.
* Don't miss a long lunch at one of the nearby beach bars before heading back to the hotel for sunset.
* If you're staying for more than a couple of nights, ask the concierge about a boat trip to Spinalonga Island.
After just three nights, both my friend and I left feeling completely refreshed. Between the exceptional service, beautiful pools, fantastic breakfasts, stylish rooms and the charm of Agios Nikolaos right on the doorstep, NIKO Seaside Resort MGallery proved to be the perfect luxury escape, and somewhere I would happily return to again.
