Jersey Summer Family Holiday

Jersey Summer Family Holiday

After such a fabulous family holiday in Jersey in August 2015, we decided as a family to return in August 2016, so we again sailed across to the beautiful channel island of Jersey from Portsmouth.

We stayed at Rozel Camping on Rozel Bay, a short walk or drive to the beach at Rozel bay.

On our previous holiday there in August 2015, we had done a huge amount of sightseeing with the Jersey War Tunnels, Durrell Wildlife Park (Jersey Zoo), Mont Orgueil (Gorey) Castle, Elizabeth Castle etc. This time we wanted to have a more chilled out trip which we managed to achieve, with lazy beach days rock-pooling, building sandcastles, shell and pebble collecting – it was heaven.

The weather was fantastic during our stay with temperatures around 24-30 degrees every day aside from one in the morning which is when we ventured to the fabulous Aqua Splash waterpark in St Helier. During our stay we managed to visit some of our favourite beaches such as Portelet Bay, Greve De Lecq, Rozel Bay and St Brelades.

We also ventured back to our favourite ice cream place in St Catherine’s Breakwater too and the lovely Thai restaurant at Bonne Nuit Bay.

We had a great time at the La Mare Wine Estate with a tour and wine and chocolate tasting – even the girls loved it (not the wine of course!)

We paid a visit this time for the day to the aMaizin adventure park with various mazes and lots of activities for the kiddies too – it was well worth the entrance fee for what was included.

During our time there the Gorey festival was on with music, fairground attractions and lots of stalls which the girls loved and we also took the trip on the Le Petit Train from St Helier to St Aubin and back.

We really like St Aubin as a resort to head to, it’s accessible to St Helier but much quieter and on another we took one of the four seater bikes out and cycled from St Helier down towards St Aubin and back, followed by a spot of shopping in St Helier too – to get a retail fix for the girls and I!

Prior to leaving home I ear marked a few restaurants that I wanted to take Steve and the girls to for a nice evening out and we were not disappointed. I can highly recommend The Salty Dog in St Aubin, the Oyster Box in St Brelades overlooking the beach and promenade, Sumas in Gorey with fantastic views over the bay and castle and a wonderful Chinese restaurant in Gorey – Jade Garden.

If you are travelling as a couple then there are an abundance of Michelin Star restaurants in Jersey to sample too.

During our stay we also decided to take a day trip across to another channel island and chose Guernsey. It was approx. one hour on the ferry from St Helier and then we took the bus tour around the island stopping at a beach and then some last minute shopping in St Peter.

It was a brilliant day and I’d like to be able to back and visit all the Channel Islands one day.

I can’t recommend Jersey highly enough for a fabulous family holiday or even a couple’s weekend away.

I doubt this will be the last time that we will visit Jersey, we may be back in a few years’ time!
