Galapagos Cruise Lindblad National Geographic Islander II For Non Swimmer
Galapagos Cruise Lindblad National Geographic Islander II For Non Swimmer
Where do I start?
I never imagined I would visit the Galapagos. I would watch David Attenborough documentaries when my children were young, thinking about the amazing colours of the crabs and the Blue Footed Boobie bird. I have seen them with my own eyes.
I can‘t swim,m so I was a bit nervous as you use zodiacs from the ship to the shore. I haven't sat that close to the sea and waves, and I was pleased that I enjoyed this experience.
The cabin was huge. 48 guests and 52 crew who were so friendly and kind. I can't eat chees,e and they madcanapéses for "Miss Ally". They were concerned when I selected Cheesecake. Thankfully, this doesnt give me migraines! The food was delicious, locally sourced and in perfect portions.
Snacks in the lobby and hot drinks were available.
The guides and most of the crew were from the Galapagos. Hearing about their family, 6 generations. A relation who moved to another island with 60 inhabitants made it too busy! They lived until 103!
I loved Bernie's quote, "Nature does not make appointments". We were so fortunate to see most of the indigenous animals and birds. I am in love with the sealions, who were everywhere. Swimming around the zodiac and chilling on the beaches.
Floreana Island was interesting. The Post Office Barrel, a wooden barrel in the 1700 whalers used as a post box. Until today, postcards are hand-delivered. We went through lots of postcards, and I found 3Ii will hand deliver. 2 in Surrey and 1 in London. We also posted our own postcards.
The crew organised for the England v Mexico game to be shown for us, which I will never forget. After the gam,e we went on deck to see lots of sharks swimming around the ship and flying fish.
Our final visit on the way to the airport was to a ranch with Giant tortoises. They weigh up to 900 pounds and live over 150 years!!
My highlights were visiting the oldest island, Española, and seeing a one-month-old and2-day-oldd sealion pup with their mums, FaceTiming my dad when a gorgeous turtle swam by.
I feel truly blessed to be given this life-changing opportunity with my wonderful collegues/friends, Roberta Ang, Heidi Jess, Dani and Karen from Lindblad. Thank you x
