A Mediterranean Cruise I will Never Forget

A Mediterranean Cruise I will Never Forget

I fell in love with cruise holidays when I first embarked on Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas. On an amazing 12 night cruise around the Mediterranean, with my partner Howard and our then 6 year old daughter Caitlin. I had booked the premium Barbie experience as a surprise for my Barbie mad little girl. We boarded the ship in Barcelona and when we arrived at our stateroom there was a pink sparkly ‘Barbie girl on board’ sign on our door. With a huge smile on her face Caitlin opened the door to find to her delight, a hamper of Barbie toys waiting for her on the sofa, a giant pink bow adorning the dressing table chair and a Barbie blanket and pillow on her bed. Along with this there was an invitation to various exclusive Barbie girl activities on-board throughout the cruise. 10 minutes into our first cruise experience and our daughter was already jumping with joy. Our stateroom (superior ocean view balcony stateroom) was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The balcony was a gorgeous place to sit and relax, staring out at the stunning Mediterranean sea whilst enjoying a cup of tea and some cookies from the complimentary room service menu. From here we spotted some dolphins and a huge sea turtle swimming alongside us. After prying Caitlin away from her Barbie paradise we went off to explore the ship. We were all very impressed with the array of activities on offer. 3 swimming pools including one main large pool, a children’s pool with water slide and an adult only pool in the solarium. Spa, hairdressers, mini golf, kids club, theatre, cinema, shopping centre, arcade and gym just to name a few, along with many different restaurants. The Windjammer buffet restaurant was always a winner even for my picky eater Caitlin, with a huge choice of food from around the world. We could always find something (or a few things) that we fancied. Needless to say I was not wearing my skinny jeans for a while after we returned home! One of our favourite things to do in the evenings was to sit in one of the hot tubs next to the main pool on the outside deck and watch movies on the huge screens, whilst Caitlin splashed around in the pool. Usually we would do this with a cocktail in hand, and even a mocktail for the little one. Absolute bliss. The staff on the Serenade, and every Royal Caribbean ship I have now had the pleasure to experience, are some of the most helpful and attentive I have encountered! Nothing is ever too much trouble and everywhere you go on the ship you are greeted by smiley happy faces. Our stateroom attendant Donny cleaned our room to a very high standard twice daily, occasionally creating animals with the towels, much to Caitlin’s excitement. My daughter loved attending the adventure ocean kids club. The staff were brilliant with all the children and there was a vast choice of activities on offer there each day. This gave her father and I time to have a wonderful meal in one of the speciality restaurants, some relaxing time in the spa being pampered or to look around the shops. Purchase a few bits of jewellery, perfume or maybe even a cheeky designer handbag. Taking full advantage of the frequent sales and tax free prices. Overall I could not fault this holiday. We visited some beautiful and exciting ports of call, each deserving of their own blog, which I will post on my page. For anyone considering a Royal Caribbean cruise, do it.
