Africa Collection’s sustainable Tourism Vision
With the growing awareness of Responsible Tourism there is an increasing demand for travellers in supporting local development projects, environmental awareness, eco tourism, conservation & much more. We strive to:
● Promote the positives of Africa, and encourage our clients to participate in responsible tourism.
● We support several charities.
● For all educational/business trips we contribute by “giving back” – whether it is handing out clothes and
school supplies or donating money to the local township schools – every little bit is appreciated.
● We encourage cultural and community participation.
● Supply our clients and travellers with up to date information on local customs, languages and beliefs.
It doesn’t take much to make a difference and we are committed to making a huge difference. By making small changes in our everyday way of life we can reduce, reuse and recycle something we are committed to.

Africa Collection Sustainable Tourism Projects Cyclone Kenneth Relief

Mozambique, is a beautiful country that we at Africa Collection are proud to have worked with for numerous
years. We understand the necessity to help protect and develop the destination, especially after the recent
natural disasters that have had devastating effects and will continue to have long-term impacts.
Back in 2019 we chose to work with the two organisations that were already helping to rebuild this beautiful
country.
The first aim was to raise £1,000.00 through fundraising for the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC). This
money went specifically towards their Cyclone Idai Appeal to deliver relief such as emergency shelter kits,
food, water purification tablets and urgent healthcare to the affected areas.
We also raised a further £5,000.00 for a project of the Nema Foundation in Northern Mozambique which helps rebuild the communities washed away by Cyclone Kenneth. To raise this money we doubled every £5.00 donation made by a client on a booking to raise the total donated from each booking to £15.00. We carried out further fundraising activities including raffles and a sponsored walk.
The Nema Foundation works to equip rural communities to sustainably eradicate poverty in their villages by creating projects that overlap and reinforce each other, creating stronger foundations for continued development.

Love Cape Town - “PingOut”
Africa Collection has been dealing with South Africa as a tourist destination for almost 25 years. We have seen this amazing country develop, and visitor numbers steadily increase. However, in many areas, social & economic transformation has been slower than anticipated. Africa Collection partnered with Uthando (meaning Love) in Cape Town, a non-profit organisation that supports an amazing collection of innovative and inspiring
community development projects. In 2017 we donated £5 000 to work with an exciting youth initiative:

PingOut
Also referred to as street or outdoor ping-pong, PingOut is more than simply ping-pong! The PingOut project is based on the idea of bringing social togetherness, physical activity, design and art into the public space. We aim to provide 5 x 1.2 ton ping-pong tables - fully manufactured, delivered and installed (by a civil engineer).
During clients’ stays in Cape Town they are able to join one of Uthando's authentic, uplifting and fun day tours, visiting the community projects which Uthando works hard with and supports. By participating, clients are making further donations, as part of the tour price goes straight to these community projects.. The focus of the tour is to visit interesting, innovative and inspiring community development projects, and at the same time
helping these wonderful initiatives continue through clients’ efforts.

'Pack For a Cause'
This is a project where we advise what clients should bring and donate when visiting these and other community projects. Save The Rhino
Africa Collection clients have been encouraged to support “save the Rhino” with their agreed contribution amount added to their invoice with all proceeds going towards “Save The Rhino” conservation charity In return
clients received special “Save the Rhino” beaded bracelets with their travel document pack. This has generated much needed funding for this important cause.

Eyesight and Blindness Testing Program
Africa Collection’s most recent and current project is to support one of our suppliers in their endeavours to raise funding to supply equipment for their mobile clinic. Through donations made already, their first health
clinic project is rolling out as an eyesight and blindness testing program. A team of eye specialists use an amazing new App called Vula to test and detect a whole range of eye conditions and diseases without the
need for sophisticated and expensive lab equipment. Once diagnosed, the process of curing is put into place, either in situ or further afield depending on the complexity found, is put in place which also includes free or heavily discounted prescription glasses.
All money Africa Collection raises from these and future projects and initiatives, is vital for completely rebuilding communities and helping anyone affected or in need, to get back on their feet and continue to thrive. We shall continue to support good causes through various initiatives.
