The Maldives - a real bucket list destination and it will not disappoint!

We stayed at Anantara Veli and it‘s sister resort next door, Anantara Dhigu . They are superb resorts in the South Male Atoll and only 30 mins speedboat ride from Male international airport. We opted for this rather than a sea plane as we were only staying for 7 nights and after an 11 hr flight we didn‘t want any more flying .

Anantara Veli is adults only and consists of around 67 overwater villas and beach bungalows. It's sister resort Dhigu is aimed at families. There are a range of fantastic restaurants at both resorts, including Indian, Japanese, Thai, a buffet, an Italian and all are of very high quality. These can be used if you're staying at either resort as long as you book in advance. At Veli there's no hotel reception but you have a host available via Whats app for all your requirements including booking restaurants.

There are spas at both resorts and there are also yoga classes, sound baths, boxing lessons and a gym.

As well as beaches and pools in the resorts, there's an addition of a separate island with a house reef for swimming and snorkelling and it has a great reggae beach bar and food truck so you can spend the day ,morning or afternoon here . The reef is only 2 mins away by boat from Dhigu.

A boat runs between Veli and Dhigu resorts all day long until 2300 and only takes 1 minute to cross . The lagoon in Veli has lots of fish and if you're in a water villa you can see them all the time. Watch out for reef sharks, they are very fast and like they're on a mission! We had the fortune of seeing a large turtle too.

If you're on the beach and fancy a drink or something to eat, just flick the switch on a palm tree and someone from the bar will arrive to take your order. It's extremely picturesque with hammocks and swing seats and truly relaxing. It's not somewhere if you're looking to have a wild time for entertainment but a resort for resting and restoring. Best of all is the staff who cannot do enough for you. Everything is well organised, the food is amazing, excellent quality too, This resort is generally half board but sometimes there are offers for full board for the price of half board . There are other offers in resort with wine flights and other options. Romantic meals can also be ordered and set up on the beach too. In the Maldives everything has to be imported so it can be expensive. Drinks are not cheap but if you live in London it's about the same price of a glass of wine in a restaurant. It can be cheaper to order spirits or beer as alternatives.

At Dhigu there's a kids club and other outdoor activities offered . There's also a dive school and excursions and snorkelling trips can be booked here. Would we return? You bet! It's everything you'd expect of The Maldives and more.
