The village has winding alleys, plenty of charming accommodations and it's car-free so you get around on foot or by electric vehicle or horse-drawn cab. You can take a short train ride from Zermatt to Sunnegga which has family-friendly slopes, play areas, eateries and wonderful views of the Matterhorn. If you fancy a lakeside setting, choose Lucerne - a fascinating and colourful city with charming streets, frescoed buildings and plenty of museums, shops, cafes and boutiques. You can take a lake steamer to one of the pretty lakeside villages such as Vitznau or Weggis or take a guided walking tour to learn more about this welcoming resort. One of the best ways to appreciate the countryside is by rail, particularly the striking Glacier Express which winds its way through the Rhine valley between Zermatt and St Moritz in the Swiss Alps.
