Trekking the Mountain Gorilla

No trip to Rwanda is complete without an awe-inspiring visit to the Volcanoes National Park to trek the majestic Mountain Gorilla. No words can describe the moment you glimpse your first sighting of this formidable animal. Ask us about pre-booking this amazing trip - it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Kigali

The capital of Rwanda, Kigali, is well worth a visit. New hotels, bars and restaurants are being developed and it is a very safe city. Of course, there are reminders of the country’s 1994 civil war, and if you feel inclined, a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial is respectful.

Nyungwe Forest

One of the largest remaining high-altitude rainforests in Africa. You may have the opportunity to see the world’s largest group of Colobus Monkeys as well as Chimpanzees in the wild. There’s also the chance to take a 50m high canopy walk offering stunning views across the rainforest canopy.

More About Rwanda

In Colonial times, the beauty of Rwanda’s rolling mountainous landscape earned it the description of ‘The Land of a Thousand Hills'. This is a breathtaking region and home, in part, to the Virunga Mountain range which spans Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. After Independence in 1962, this central African country of just over 26,000 kilometres was catapulted to fame as the land of “Gorillas in the Mist” - the adopted home of Diane Fossey and the most important refuge for the rare Mountain Gorilla. Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park) lies in northwestern Rwanda. Here you will see towering volcanoes and the most famous residents...the Mountain Gorillas. These majestic primates are a humbling sight and one which you will certainly never forget. You can take an organised trek through the dense, lush rainforest in search of the gorilla families. There are approximately ten gorilla families currently residing here with a total of around 480 Mountain Gorillas in all. For something totally different, visit the bustling capital of Kigali which is a vibrant place full of arts and culture. This modern city is a great place to explore and you could take a bike or walking tour to make the most out of your time here. Rwanda also has a sombre history which is well explained and documented at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre; a memorial to the many, many thousands of people who lost their lives during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.
