Setting Sail into a New Era: The Inaugural Season of the Star Princess

There’s a special kind of magic in the air with Star Princess, the second Sphere Class ship and the much-anticipated sister to Sun Princess. I had the pleasure of sailing on her second voyage of her inaugural season around the Mediterranean, before she sailed to Fort Lauderdale for her naming ceremony with Matthew & Camila McConaughey serving as the ship‘s godparents as they christened the new ship.

A Star Is Born

From the moment you step aboard, Star Princess, it feels like the dawn of a new cruising era. Sleek exterior with a focus on light, space, and extensive ocean views. The ship embodies a perfect balance of luxury and comfort. The Dome, a glass-enclosed entertainment space inspired by Santorini cliffs. The Sphere, a large spherical atrium, offers panoramic ocean views, airy public spaces, and state-of-the-art technology. The ship is powered by Liquefied natural gas ( LNG) to reduce emissions.

Technology-The Medallion-net is your best friend on board. The Medallion is wearable & waterproof. Along with the Princess app, you can shop on board, purchase drinks or shop on shore, find your friends, find your way around the ship, unlock your stateroom door, order food and drinks ( Ocean now) to wherever your location is on the ship or to your stateroom, connect with guest service, embark & disembark your ship.

The Dome: A breathtaking geodesic glass-enclosed entertainment space at the top of the ship, inspired by the terraces of Santorini, where sunlight streams by day, a perfect location to relax by the pool and dazzling performances light up the night. We had the pleasure of watching a candlelight concert in the Dome, which was a memorable, moving experience.

Princess Arena: A reimagined main theatre with a dynamic, in-the-round design that brings every guest closer to the action. The theatre can be configured in three different ways to host a variety of shows, musicals to magicians and comedians. We attended the Meridian theatrical show where Bridgerton meets the Titanic in a sweeping spectacle that blends an original musical score and eclectic choreography amid masked balls & roaring engine rooms of the grand ship Celestial.

Next-Generation Staterooms: Spacious, thoughtfully designed staterooms with modern touches, plush cotton bedding, and smart amenities — including the new Sanctuary Collection Suites & balcony staterooms for travellers offering enhanced amenities, private lounges and exclusive dining.

Culinary Journeys: Gourmet dining curated by world-renowned chefs to casual bites by the pool, the ship’s culinary offerings promise to delight every palate. With 28 Food and beverage offerings, your daily dining journey can take you from Breakfast delivered to your stateroom to a 24-hour offering in the Eatery to experiential dining at the Chef‘s Table & Winemakers Dinner.

17 dining options include 5 where you can enjoy all day complimentary dining throughout the day & with Princess Plus Alfredos Pizzeria & O‘Malleys Irish Pub and unlimited Speciality Dining with Princess Premier in Crown Grill, Sabatini‘s, Makoto Ocean, The Catch by Rudi, The Butcher's Block by Dario, Umai Teppanyaki and my favourite of all, Love by Britt, a collaboration between artist Romero Britto and master chef Rudi Sodamin.

Cocktails galore with inspired flavours at Good Spirits, where we attended a cocktail-making Class and sampled the Key Lime Cocktail. 11 bars are ready to serve you your favourite tipple. If you want a Bloody Mary by the pool or a pre-dinner cocktail, or an after-dinner cocktail, there is a bar situated close to all the restaurants and entertainment options.

Entertainment is never-ending:

The Daily patter is delivered to your Sateroom every evening highlighting the full days schedule of keep fit, yoga, quizes, gameshows, musical events curated for all tastes, packed with Morning, Afternoon & Evening schedules where you can discover events that fit your interests whether it‘s play or excitement ( Vibe) culinary delights ( Palate ), or welbeing, intellectual and cultural enrichment ( Explore) you‘re never short on options no matter your mood.

Magic. Mystery Mixology!

The absolute highlight of my cruise ( I assure you there were many special & spectacular moments ) was SPELLBOUND, which is exclusive to Star & Sun Princess in partnership with Hollywood's iconic Magic Castle.

Behind a black door in the corner of the ship is the elusive black door to Spellbound. You are invited into the entrance, where you are greeted by an usher who asks for the magic word to enter the speakeasy. The usher's cabin moves to one side, and you step into an extraordinary experience. The venue honours the legendary illusionist 'The Great Cardini' within the speakeasy bar that celebrates magic & mixology. I can not tell you anymore since I was sworn to secrecy!

The Love Boat: As we set sail from every port, the ship's horn theme was the Love Boat melody — Princess Cruises are known for the Love Boat, and Star Princess has adopted this ritual, which we all looked forward to when departing every port. You feel the love on the Star Princess from the moment you board, the love and the passion from the senior crew all the service crew and staff, you feel so welcomed and every attention to detail to make sure you have the best experience from the Stateroom service, your first & last cocktail to the disembarkation of the ship with its consitent 5 star service.
