She's Back - Le Saint Géran Mauritius

She's Back - Le Saint Géran Mauritius

After closing her doors in February 2017 for a total refurbishment, the fabulous Le Saint Géran re opened her doors on the 1st December 2017. Part of the One and Only group, the hotel is without doubt the best hotel on the Island. The management paid all it's staff during the renovation period and it's not surprising that on average most employees work for 30 years. The staff and management make it a most hospitable and welcoming property. I was lucky enough to be one of 8 agents who were the very first guests to arrive late November just before the opening. Having been to the hotel 20 years previous I was curious to see how they could have improved on what was a stunning property. Driving up the entrance to the hotel we were greeted by every single member of staff who were lined up with a smile and a bow for us, really wasn't expecting that and we felt like royalty. The grand door and entrance hall was as I remembered it but with a face lift, modern and contemporary with a view at the end of the hall of the Ocean. Walking towards the sea I immediately said I'll be back, something I have never said before.  The colours, the feel, the closest to Heaven I think. We were escorted to our rooms which were Ocean Facing. All rooms are exactly the same and all offer either Lagoon or Ocean View, with either large furnished balcony or terrace. There are also some suites which are larger.  At time of writing there is also one Villa available. As expected from a 5 star hotel all amenities provided are top class - the huge bed was so comfortable, there were soft robes, slippers and top quality toiletries,  huge shower and bath and plenty of wardrobe space with complimentary beach bag. Returning to the lounge area, fresh fruit, flowers and a bottle of the local rum awaited - all complimentary. The food, where do I start? All meals are created by a Michelin starred chef. There's a choice of 5 restaurants, my favourite being the beach front La Pointe purely because of the beach and sea views. Meals including breakfast taken in La Terrasse are divine; you can't call it buffet, it's like a culinary voyage around the world with 'stations' that will cook you food to your liking. Cookery classes and wine tasting can be arranged for you. This was something we did during our stay. We visited the local food market with Chef who explained some of the different vegetables, herbs and spices, then he took us back to the Terrasse where he cooked a curry and prepared a palm salad. The beaches are of the purest whitest sand.  Sand was actually bought in to extend the beach area. There are 2 main pools, one adult only and one which families with children can enjoy. By the pool in the evening there is a live band who are amazing. If you want to dance, there is small dance floor over the pool, but be careful as it is so close to the edge! Families are well catered for in Club One, open from 10 am to 10 pm, with so many activities for kids and teenagers to enjoy. For adults this is where the fitness area is. There's a beautiful spa which is also located on the picture perfect beachfront -  an idyllic place to spoil yourself. If you don't want to just lie on the beach, there's a vast choice of sports and water sports available. I was very sad to leave this beautiful hotel, but as I said, I will be back one day.
