Kontokali Bay Resort and Spa, Corfu
I stayed at this lovely 5* hotel in Corfu last year with my husband and really could not fault it. It is in a great position on a peninsula overlooking the bay, with its own private beaches and only a few miles from Corfu Town.
Our room was bungalow style and felt very private and we upgraded from bed and breakfast to half board. To us this was the best of both worlds as whilst the food in the main restaurant is very nice, if you feel like visiting one of the local restaurants for the evening, you can have lunch instead of dinner. Lunch is served at the beach tavern where they barbecue your choice of fish or meat to order and was simply delicious! You can also dine in the a la carte restaurants for a very reasonable supplement, the 'Asterias' restaurant has a lovely setting with great views over the bay and felt really special.
The hotel is in a great location for exploring Corfu as it is about 10 minutes walk from the main road where you can catch the bus into Corfu Town, full of character and well worth a visit, or take the bus to several other parts of the island. We had an easy day trip to Paleokastritsa which we thought was lovely.
Back at the hotel, there is a very nice infinity pool, beach activities and water sports, tennis and table tennis and evening entertainment....the Greek evening was great fun! Children are also catered for with their own playroom, pool, playground and daytime activities. Another bonus is a very well equipped Spa and Wellness Centre with 9 treatment rooms and a full spa programme.
All in all we had a fabulous holiday and could have easily stayed longer! The hotel is of a very high standard without being pretentious and there are some lovely areas to relax in including a sundeck that stretches out over the water's edge and catches the sea breezes....bliss!
