Icon of the Seas - The largest Cruise Ship in the World !!

I have just returned from a Cruise to Mexico, the Bahamas and Honduras onboard this Incredible Ship...

When Royal Caribbean unveiled the Icon of the Seas, it wasn’t just launching another cruise ship - it was redefining what a holiday at sea could look like. Officially entering service in January 2024, costing over £1.6 billion, this engineering marvel has earned the title of the largest cruise ship in the world, setting a new benchmark for innovation, entertainment, and size.

A Floating City on the Ocean

At nearly 365 metres long and spanning 20 decks, Icon of the Seas is less like a ship and more like a floating city. It can carry up to 7600 passengers with over 2300 crew. When I sailed, it was at full capacity, but some days it felt like half full - I never queued once for anything...

Next-Level Entertainment and Attractions

What truly sets Icon of the Seas apart is its unprecedented range of onboard experiences. From adrenaline-pumping thrills to relaxing retreats, the ship appeals to any type of traveller. I travelled with my husband, there were lots of families on board ( it was Easter), couples and also groups of friends of all ages.

One of its headline features is the largest waterpark at sea, complete with record-breaking slides and high-speed drops

The ship also boasts:

Seven swimming pools, one with a swim-up bar, and one with a suspended infinity pool offering panoramic ocean views ( adult only)

The AquaDome, a massive glass structure with a waterfall and live performances

Ice skating rink - regular Ice shows and also the option to test your ice skating skills

Theatre - featuring the full West End version of The Wizard of Oz

The Pearl -A giant spherical structure located in the Royal Promenade, a walk through Sphere, which is a modern mix of Art, Light and Interactive experience

Whether you’re chasing thrills or relaxation, this ship ticks all the boxes.

Icon of the Seas introduces a neighbourhood-style layout, with themed areas designed for different experiences. Families can enjoy Surfside, a dedicated zone packed with child-friendly attractions, while adults can escape to quieter, upscale retreats.

Dining is equally diverse, with 20+ bars and over 40 food and drink venues, offering everything from casual bites to fine dining.

Accommodation ranges from standard cabins to extravagant multi-level suites, some even include slides and private outdoor spaces, blurring the line between cruise ship and luxury resort.

Innovation Meets Sustainability

In a step toward greener cruising, Icon of the Seas is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), which burns cleaner than traditional marine fuels.

This highlights a broader tension in modern travel: balancing luxury and sustainability in an era of climate awareness.

Overall,l I can highly recommend Icon of the Seas to those who love big ships, great dining and lots of entertainment.
