As we drove towards Aigua Blava Bay, Begur, on the Costa Brava, it was clear we were going to experience something amazing. Along the unique and stunning coastline of the Costa Brava, approximately 1hr 40mins North of Barcelona, you will find nestled in the hillside, the luxury Hotel Aigua Blava. A privately owned hotel since 1934, the Hotel Aigua Blava offers a charming and friendly retreat, where we spent 3 nights with our kids. With a variety of room types to suit all, it is perfect for Family Holidays, honeymoons and a just a long weekend away. It is quite simply, lovely!
From all aspects of the hotel, the views are wonderful. Overlooking the beautiful Aigua Blava Bay, which is a lovely 20 min walk away, it offered the required contrast to the City of Barcelona, where we had started our trip. Aigua Blava Bay, offers a small selection of restaurants, some of which are open in the evenings and water based activities including pedalos, paddle boards and kayaks. For something a little more untouched, venture the other way from the hotel (around 10 mins on foot) to discover the Platja Fonda. This is a magical bay, with crystal clear waters, making it perfect for snorkeling. That said, if beaches really aren't your thing, then the pool area at the Hotel Aigua Blava is extremely relaxing. The Salt water pool offers the relief from the Sun, and with the small pool bar, which offers drinks and ice creams, there is really not much need to move to far!
The Cuisine at the Hotel Aigua Blava, needs mention as a separate subject. People travel to eat here!! It is in fact renowned for being one of the best restaurants on the Costa Brava and after sampling some of the food I can see why! . The Steak Diane, which was prepared before me, at the table, was just divine and with views from the terrace across the Aigua Blava Bay, I would say you would be hard pushed to find something better!
Despite it being difficult to pull yourself away from the sanctuary of the hotel Aigua Blava, I would recommend that a car is a must here. There is so much to explore in the surrounding beaches and towns which this area of the Costa Brava has to offer. The biggest dilemma, is where to head for! We visited Playa Sa Riera, which is about 20 min by car and with it's great little beach cafes and a larger beach area, this was another lovely option! Or, Tamariu, where you can hire boats and dine on tapas and Paella. Travel inland to the town of Begur with it's array of restaurants and shops, which was lovely in the evening, or slightly further afield to Girona......the list is endless depending on how far you want to venture from the sanctuary of the hotel.
This is a truly wonderful hotel, which is perfect for any occasion and makes for a great twin centre option with a City Break in Barcelona. Contact me for more details and I will be happy to help you include the Hotel Aigua Blava in your next trip.
