Whilst in Crete on a Conference, we took the opportunity to visit Daios Cove, for a quick look around. I expected it to be a great place, I had read so many positive reviews, but I had not expected to be wowed before we had even set foot in the property!
And wowed I certainly was, by the spectacular view from the cliff top where our car journey terminated. This was an entrance to savour! Down in the lift to Reception, the views continue to enchant, floor to ceiling windows ensure that nothing is missed. As a first impression this is up there with the best!
Daios Cove, only 8 km from Agios Nikolaos, is built on a hillside, indeed it is in part built in to a hillside overlooking a most beautiful bay. It is designed to maximise its position, uses glass wherever possible to ensure that it brings the outside inside. Indeed it's use of a palette of cool blues and greens, set against the natural wood and slate coloured stone, give it a contemporary and yet still luxurious ambience.
This stunning resort offers 300 beautifully appointed rooms, suites and villas, each with the quality amenities you would expect to find. We saw quite a few options on our tour and seemed to have been permanently declaring how lovely each was.
All guests can expect the best standards of service, but villa guests have many exclusive treats which include a private heated seawater pool, beach section, dedicated concierge and butler service and preferential dining and spa reservations
Created as it is within a steep hillside, getting around the resort could be an issue, but golf buggies run around the little roads of the resort and three ingenious funiculars link all hotel areas and down into the cove, where you will find a lovely private sandy beach, with a beach bar, watersports and a dive centre.
Daios Cove has some pretty amazing restaurants and fantastic menus. We had a wonderful lunch in the Taverna (I think it was) With other options including the Ocean Club, the Pangea, the Ocean Wet bar and the Crystal Box eating and drinking will be a pleasure.
A fabulous spa, and a state of the art fitness centre offer a full range of treatments and two saunas, a steam room and thermal shower complete the picture.
Children are welcomed and catered for at Daios Cove, there are clubs for children from as young as 4 months to 12 years and for teens from 13 to 17. There are a full range of age appropriate activities on offer. Babysitting can also be arranged.
As I think back to my tour, I am still enamoured by what I saw and wish I could have stayed longer. For me this is a resort which has embraced it's position and has been empathetically created to be in total keeping with its surroundings - the seamless blending is never more apparent than when seeing the ocean from the stunning infinity pool!
