Valamar Argosy Dubrovnik
A visit to Dubrovnik is a must. With so many hotels to chose from and deciding what area to stay in is difficult if you have never been. Wherever you stay, you are sure to love it but I would highly recommend a stay in the Valamar Argosy - it's just perfect. I went there last September with my husband for a 5 day break.
This lovely 4 star hotel is just a half hour transfer from the airport. The location is perfect, situated on Lapad which is just 6 kilometers from the old city walls. Easily reached by a regular bus service just outside of the hotel for just a couple of Euros each way.
Although the hotel doesn't have its own beach, a short walk will take you to a couple of coves and beach clubs, which are very pretty. You could also use the beach at the Valamar President which is the 5 star sister hotel next door.
The hotel has just been refurbished and the whole hotel and rooms are very attractively furnished. Rooms are available with a sea view, which is what we had, and I would recommend that. There are lots of comfy sofas and areas dotted around the building to just stretch out and relax and read a book. A small bar area provides the entertainment for the evening which is usually live music of some sort - pleasant background music rather than loud and visual.
The food was amazing. We found lunches were actually cheaper and better in the hotel than in the town. This was by the pool in the pool bar/cafe. The menu isn't huge but everything so fresh and tasty - the prawn risotto was do die for! Breakfast and dinner is served in the lovely buffet restaurant. Again you could always dine at the President too.
The pools are amazing with magnificent views of the sea and some islands. There are plenty of sunbeds for everyone plus there's also an indoor pool and a spa.
The hotel offers a variety of trips and excursions and money can be exchanged at the desk. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
While you are there, try and get to the More Hotel and visit the famous Cave bar and eat a steak flambe in their restaurant. Amazing!!
A walk past the beaches down to the harbour is very pleasant and again there is a choice of bars and restaurants.
Dubrovnik itself is amazing, however it gets very busy most days as there are sometimes 3 cruise ships in at one time. I found it best to go into town around 6pm when all the ships have left.
I love this hotel so much I am going back again in April with my girlfriends.
If you asked me to recommend a hotel in Dubrovnik, it would be this one every time.
