I was so excited to visit this hotel and not only have lunch here but afternoon tea too as well as having time to relax by the pool - I love the perks of my job! Reid's Palace is set in ten acres of the most wonderful gardens with enviable views over the Atlantic situated in an elevated and superb position in Funchal.  This hotel is a long standing member of The Leading Hotels of the World , owned by Orient-Express Hotels and must be one of the worlds most famous hotels.  Its offers a combination of old world charm with the best modern amenities. The atmosphere here is grand but in a very comfortable way and appeals to the more traditional guest although the younger guests are catered for particularly as the hotel has its own children's clubs. The rooms in the hotel are all elegantly furnished and there is an excellent variety of fine restaurants, lounges and bars. Reid's is renowned for it's afternoon tea experience which I have to say is and experience that I will never forget.Tea with scones, sandwiches and a delicious choice of cakes which I believe has been served since the hotel opened in 1891 - there is also a pianist who plays every afternoon during tea. There are various room categories 163 rooms starting at the classic partial ocean view, superior ocean view, deluxe ocean or garden view, junior suites and superior suites either with garden or ocean views. All rooms have air-conditioning, internet access, cable TV, mini bar and interconnecting rooms are available too. There are 2 outdoor pools and a childrens pool. Spa offering various treatments and a fitness room, sauna, steam and tennis courts.  There is a courtesy shuttle bus to Funchal town centre. I found Reid's Palace a magical experience especially the afternoon tea ! .
